JULY
'LIA'S 21st BIRTHDAY BASH'
The banner at the entrance of the room reads. Greeting guests and welcoming them into the venue, it waves as the cool fans blow above it.
Music plays, coming from the speakers that the employees spent time putting up.
For Malia's 21st, she really didn't want anything too big. But she did want it boujie.
But, of course, she did. If not her to be the boujie spoiled friend out of the group, then who?
So her parents rented her the roof top box of the tallest hotel in the city for her birthday. Equipped with a bar, rooftop sighting area and tables for dining, it's everything Malia hoped for and more.
She's just not there to see it yet.
"How is she late to her own party?" Sebastian looks around as he sips his water.
"Have you met her?" Xavier asks, drinking pineapple juice out of the bottle.
"She said she was almost ready when I was driving here."
"That's when you tack on an extra fifteen to twenty minutes." Namjoon says, putting chips into his mouth as he scrolls on his phone.
He leans on the counter, using his elbows to support him. Sebastian looks over at him and then to his phone. He watches Namjoon double tap a photo before tapping a text message that comes through.
He sees the contact name with a heart at the end and looks away. It's not his business and he hadn't even meant to look as long as he did.
"You're one to talk." Janae flicks Namjoon's forehead. "You were 15 minutes late."
"I was busy. But still earlier than Lia." He retorts without missing a beat.
"Oh! There she is." Xavier points in the direction of the door.
Walking through the partygoers is Malia. In a red set with a corset like top and a long skirt, she steps in black strapped heels.
Sebastian stares with parted lips as she walks over to them.
"Yeah, she had every damn right to be late looking that damn good." Janae says as she takes in her best friend's attire.
Malia hugs her first with a smile as Janae tells her 'happy birthday'.
"Thank you, Nae."
Xavier hugs her as well with a birthday greeting that she laughs at. She and Namjoon side hug each other before she moves on to Sebastian.
He hands her a single red rose and she smiles at it.
"Thank you." She kisses his cheek.
"You're welcome." Bash replies, kissing her temple.
"This is going to be an awfully sober party." Janae says as she looks around. "For us, I mean."
Malia nods as she looks around, too.
Sebastian looks at his other cup and then at Malia, curiously. "Nobody's drinking?"
"Janae and Xavier don't drink."
"I don't either." Namjoon inputs.
"Didn't you drink the night of the graduation?" Malia asks.
"Yeah, but it was just a shot and that was it. I don't drink anymore. Barely, I mean." Namjoon corrects himself. "Definitely not tonight."
