Two o'clock in the afternoon and Namjoon wakes up with a damp layer of sweat on his skin. His head is buried into Malia's chest and her arm is around his shoulder while her hand holds his head. Her legs are wrapped around him, cradling him close to her. She is knocked out.
They had a long night. They made their cookies and watched the Santa Clause series. Xavier fell asleep first due to his inebriation and Janae had to wake him up to get him upstairs. Malia and Namjoon finished the final movie by themselves before going to bed.
Namjoon wasn't really tired and neither was Malia. They were wrapped in each other, talking about the day. He apologized to her again and told her everything that's been on his mind. He misses his father, he's upset with his mother because he feels like their love meant nothing now that she's moving on. Logically, he understands that that's not the case but he's having a hard time swaying from the emotion in his chest.
He knows that it's not fair of him to want her to be alone or to want her to dwell on his father forever. He also knows that if possible, the ghost of his father would have whooped his ass for what he did. He wouldn't have hesitated to do it either.
Mr. Kim loved his family. He loved nobody more than his son and his wife. He wouldn't have wanted Nari to be alone nor would he have wanted to be sad over him for the rest of her life. Mr. Kim wouldn't have wanted her to go a single day without the love that she deserves. Maybe he'd be a little worried that she waited even this long to try dating again.
Namjoon burst into tears upon remembering the analogy that Xavier gave him. He used Malia as an example Namjoon switched her out with himself. He would not want Malia to be crying and upset every day. He wouldn't want her to feel like a shell of herself because of his passing. He wouldn't her to be emotionally or mentally crippled because of him.
Namjoon would feel the way that his father felt. He wants her to live every single day with nothing but the maximum amount of love that one can feel. And then some. He wants to be bursting at the seams with it every single day. Maybe ghost him would feel bittersweet watching it but he would be happy knowing that she's healing and getting the love that she deserves.
Malia would love him no less. She would never forget him. She would just heal. And that's okay for her to do.
He cried for about 20 minutes after they had been talking for an hour and a half. It was about three in the morning when they had finally fallen asleep. Namjoon was spent and Malia was happy to comfort him. She was happier than ever that he finally talked to her about the things bothering him.
And after the long day that they had, it's no surprise that they slept for so long.
Namjoon turns his head to the side so that he can breathe properly. He doesn't know how he slept face first in Malia's chest and didn't suffocate. He rubs her hip until she wakes up.
She stretches and he uses the opportunity to detach himself from her. He stretches too before getting up to use the bathroom. Malia follows him into the hallway and goes to the toilet downstairs. When she comes out, she sees Janae by the stove and Xavier looking over her shoulder. He has one hand around her waist while she cooks.
The sound of Namjoon coming down the stairs turns all of their attention.
"I'm almost done with lunch." Janae tell them. "I was gonna wake y'all up earlier but y'all didn't respond when I knocked. I poked my head in there. Lia was snoring so I knew y'all must've been tired."
"I don't snore." Malia says as she scrunches her nose.
"Yes, you do." Namjoon says as he kisses her cheek. "Not loud but when you're tired, you definitely snore a little."
