JUNE
Something about Malia scheduling her own doctor's appointments has always made her nervous.
It's always terrified her for reasons that she could never explain. Like what the hell was she supposed to pick up the phone and say? She didn't know those people.
Well, she did but like... that was it.
But a few days ago, a miracle happened.
Without a second thought, Malia picked up the phone and called her gynecologist. She scheduled an appointment for herself and didn't feel any anxiety about doing so.
She didn't even have to think about it. She just made her decision and did what she had to do.
It was a decision that she came to after much contemplation with herself. It's something that some could argue should've been an obvious decision to make. It should've been a 'no-brainer' type of scenario. But Malia thought much further into it than just logic.
Getting back on birth control meant a number of different things for her.
There's a list of pros and cons. If she's being honest, they're equal in her book and only one of the pros have any affect on her.
She won't get her period anymore. That's it.
That's the biggest pro and one of the biggest reasons that she wants to get back on it.Having gotten her cycle twice now since she made the most difficult choice of her life, she's realized that she's gained some very complicated emotions when it comes to getting her cycle.
The cramping, the pain, the bleeding, the mood swings. The sudden anger, the surges of sadness. They're all too familiar in ways that she can't bare to go through anymore.
Malia thought of numerous ways to get rid of her cycles. Permanently, at one point. She even researched getting her tubes tied only to find out that one, no doctor would perform the procedure on her.
For one, she's 'too young' and has no circumstances where it would be absolutely medically necessary. She is also quite literally too young. She isn't 21 yet. And though, she could wait until her birthday, it wouldn't really do her any justice.
Because for two, getting her tubes tied will not, unfortunately, stop her from getting her period.
Finding out that information was the most frustrating thing she's read that whole day. So she watched videos on the different methods of birth control.
Automatically, the shot was out of the running. She's been on that before and it clearly didn't work in her favor.
She can't bring herself to lay back while someone sticks their hand or anything else up her vagina. So the IUD isn't happening either. Just imagining it makes her cringe and she feels disgusted.
Taking the pill is a risk because she's still going to get her period. And if she forgets to take a pill, the effectiveness drops and she'll get her period early.
So her only other option was the implant.
She forced herself to watch the video of what's done during the procedure so that she was well prepared.
All that they did was numb her arm before slicing into it to place the implant in. She felt the pressure of the incision but not the pain.
"How's your arm feel?" Janae asks as she looks at it. "You need some ice?"
Malia shakes her head. "I'm okay. It's just really sore but it doesn't hurt."
"And it lasts for how long?"
