Why is he here?

Why is he here?

Why are either one of them sitting at the dinner table? And so casually like it's normal for them to be here.

I look over at Namjoon and he's glaring at Taehyung as he eats. I smack his leg and he looks at me. I mouth the word 'stop' and he rolls his eyes before eating a spoonful of macaroni and cheese.

"So, Seokjin.." my father clears his throat. "You're the Dean at Georgia Tech, right?"

Dean Kim sips his kool-aid and licks his lips before answering.

"Yes. It's been five years since I started."

"You like it?"

"Every job has its days. But overall I enjoy it. It's just the people I work with that I don't always want to deal with."

Mr. Ward chuckles. "I hear that. I know them people be working you up there."

"More like, I work myself. They often have very quick ways of processes to do things. Protocols and things that I often don't agree with so I kind of step in to be the middle man for a lot of things. I give the students a better way to communicate, a more effective way to use their voice on campus."

"They be tryna bullshit basically, is what you're saying."

Seokjin.. Dean Kim... Jin...? The man laughs.

"Yeah, exactly that. They all feed off of each other so if no one's there to intervene or stop it, it continues. I try to be the roadblock for it as best as I can, though."

"That's good to hear." My mom says. "Campuses need people like you; the ones that actually care. I didn't know you lived so close to here."

Me either. I'm still tryna figure out what he's doing in my house. And why the fuck he brought Taehyung.

I haven't seen him last year. He made sure that I got home safe even though he knows I didn't want to be near him. I'm grateful for him, but I still don't like him.

"It was a fairly recent move. Almost two years ago. My, uh, brother and his wife were in an accident and-."

"Can you not?" Taehyung asks, speaking for the first time since we sat down to eat.

I actually haven't heard him say anything at all past greeting the adults. He didn't say anything to me or Joon. Not that I really expected him to, or wanted him to.

Seokjin looks at Taehyung who's glaring at him. They stare at each other for several seconds before Seokjin's eyebrow goes up and back down.

"They passed so I had to move for Tae." He says, wrapping up what he was going to say.

Namjoon and I both snap our heads at Seokjin. He's cutting into his ham and Taehyung rolls his eyes.

"Oh.. right. I think that we heard about that. I prayed for them to make it through." My mother says, with sympathy in her voice.

I can't blame her for feeling bad. She doesn't know what he did to me. The only name I ever gave was Namjoon's since he was the one that asked me out.

"It was very hard on all of us." Seokjin says quietly.

"All of who?" Taehyung snaps. "The family hadn't talked to them in years and you all showed up crying and whining bullshit like any of you bothered to care before that."

"Taehyung, we talk-."

"I'm leaving." He cuts Seokjin off and scoots his chair back. He puts his shoes on and grabs his coat, not bothering to put it on before he walks out the door. Seokjin inhales, closing his eyes before he lets the breath out.
