A little after midnight, Malia is sitting on the floor at the foot of her bed. With a small waste bin in her lap and towel next to her, she's been nauseous for almost an hour.

She's thrown up twice and her body feels weak.

Malia groans as she puts the waste bin to the side. She gets on all fours and crawls to her nightstand. Grabbing her phone from the charger, she calls Mrs. Kim.

It rings twice before she answers.

"Hello?"

"Mrs. Kim."

"Malia? You don't sound good, honey. Are you still getting sick?"

"Yeah. I don't feel good."

"Do you feel better, or worse? The same?"

"The same."

"Okay, honey. Uhm... God. I got called into work tonight. They were really understaffed. Can you have your Mom or Dad bring you in to the emergency room?"

"Yeah." She says. "I'll call them."

"Okay. Just call me back or have one of them call me, okay?"

"Yeah."

Malia hangs up and calls her mother. She hears her phone ringing in the room across the hall and closes her eyes.

Mrs. Ward looks at her phone before she answers.

"Hello?"

"Mom."

"Baby, what's wrong?" She asks, sitting up as she hears her daughter's voice.

"I don't feel good." She hiccups.

Mrs. Ward taps her husband awake.

"We're coming, baby. Hold on. I'll be right there."

Her parents get out of bed, and walk across the hall to their daughter's room. Her father flicks the light on.

"Oh, Lia." Her mother kneels on the floor.

"I don't feel good, mama."

"I know, baby, I know. Babe, go start the car."

"I'm on it. Get her jacket on and some pants."

"Mrs. Kim's at work. I called her." Malia sits up with her mother's help.

Her body feels weak and she's exhausted.

"Okay, honey. We'll go there."

Mrs. Ward helps her get her clothes on and walks her down the stairs. She puts their shoes on at the door and Mr. Ward holds it open for them.

They get into the car, with Mr. Ward driving and his wife and daughter in the back seat. He drives to the hospital and Mrs. Kim is waiting by the emergency doors for them.

"Hey." She has a wheelchair and sits Malia down.

"I definitely think she has alcohol poisoning." Mr. Ward says. "She bet not touch another damn drink of nothing. Ever."

"Not the time, honey." His wife reminds.

He knows that's it's not the time but he really can't help it, given the circumstances.

"I'll check you guys in." Mrs. Kim says. "Room six is open." She points.

"Thank you."

Mrs. Kim sits at the desk and checks Malia in. She prints the wristband stickers for the three of them.
