+MALIA+Something about watching my man dunk on niggas really makes me cocky.
Like I don't know if they think they Namjoon just throws his weight around or what. But he's been rushing past this team and making three points over their heads all night. I feel like they think because he's big, he's more weight than talent. More size than tactic.
They're wrong.
Namjoon lowers himself as Tyrell stands on the sidelines with the ball. He bounces it twice and the ref blows the whistle. He passes it out to Hakeem who catches it as he jogs past.
Keem takes it up-court and overhead passes it to Midas. The man takes two steps before making a chest pass. Namjoon catches it and immediately takes it to the hoop. Two seconds before the buzzer goes off for the end of the game, he dunks over the heads of two players.
"Oh my fucking-!" Xavier exclaims and starts laughing as we stand up to clap. "That's my boy!"
I can't believe he just did that. He kept dunks to a minimum last year. That's more Ty's thing. But damn, he looks good doing it.
The basketball team surrounds Joon, roughing him up as he grins. Their coach dumps a bottle of water on him and he shakes his hair out as he starts laughing.
They shake hands with the other team and their coaches. The man that was closest to the hoop when Joon dunked has a scowl on his face. He bumps his shoulder and looks him up and down. Namjoon stops walk to look at him and Jay pulls him on.
"Come on."
"Ain't even worth it, dawg. You know that." Tyrell shakes him by his shoulders to loosen.
"Aaahh. He mad!" Kaia says and I cover my mouth to stop myself from laughing. Xavier puts his head down as he laughs to himself. The rest of the dance team looks away as they try not to laugh.
"Don't antagonize them, Kaia." Coach Netta says. "Let their coach handle it."
"But he just pushed Joon."
"I know, I know. But we gotta practice game etiquette. That's his coach's job to check him. Now if he don't, then that's a different story and that'll be handled accordingly. But Joon alright. The guys got him. We can still be penalized for what we say. Especially if a pro and it happens. You have to learn and practice now to avoid it in the future."
Kaia sighs, knowing that coach is right. It's better to keep herself in check now than to risk messing up etiquette if she's ever drafted for a national or pro team. That could get her sat out or even cut from the team if it's deemed drastic enough.
We get up from our seats on the bleachers after the gymnasium is cleared of spectators. We walk to the locker room and Xavier waits in the hall for me. Me and the girls put on sweats and our coats to walk to our suites in. Our body temps are running high from adrenaline but that doesn't mean we won't get sick when we walk out of here.
I grab my gym bag and walk out of the locker room. Xavier is leaning against the wall with his foot flat on it.
"Can you hold this for me? I'm lazy." I hand him my bag and he puts his over his head like a crossbody.
"You're not even gonna try and lie? Say you're tired or something?"
"That's not a lie, I am tired. I also don't feel like carrying that bag though."
He smacks his teeth and puts his phone in his pocket. "Where's Joon? Don't y'all come out at the same time usually?"
"Yeah but he's probably being talked to by their coach. Or their whole team is. That dude bumped his shoulder, they're probably being pep talked about their response. That was good though. They didn't do anything. It's not like they fought on the court."
