+THIRD+December 31st. The last day of the year. Technically, the final day of the semester. The very last day to do any of the New Years resolutions you swore you'd do in the beginning.
It's also one of Janae's favorite day of the year. Why does the extrovert love this day so much?
Parties. Yes.
Of course, Xavier is down to go. Namjoon doesn't care either way. It's Malia that's a little wary. Janae remembered why right after she brought the party up and recanted.
"We don't have to go. I forgot for a second, Lia. I'm sorry." Janae apologizes and sits on the couch next to her. Their parents have gone to their 'bar crawl' that they usually do for adult time, leaving their young adults to their own devices.
"No, it's okay. I can just stay home and eat ice cream. My mom bought me more yesterday so I'm stocked."
"I'll stay with you, baby." Joon offers. He'd rather be home with her anyway. He doesn't feel like being in front of a bunch of people at the moment. But he would've went if Malia was going.
"You don't want to go out?" She asks him and he shakes his head.
"Not really." He lays his head in her lap, getting comfortable on her thighs. She looks at Janae who's looking at Xavier. They're having a quiet conversation about whether he wants to go or not. He already said that he would but she's just making sure.
"I'm not gonna drink, though. I'll be DD." He says, rubbing the soft material of her pants. He wasn't going to drink even if they Ubered there. He prefers to be completely sober if Janae is drinking. All it takes one person nudging her too hard to get by and she's ready to fight.
It takes half of his strength sober to pull her away. If he's drunk, he might struggle a bit.
"Okay, that's fine." Janae turns to her best friend. "What are you guys gonna do until midnight? There's probably a couple bars open for food. Most places have closed early, though."
"We'll figure something out. Pick something else for us to do, though, baby. I am not watching that depressing ass movie with you again for the millionth time. I know it word for word." Namjoon exaggerates. He may not know it word for word but he knows a lot of them. He can do play by plays of scenes and give the just of almost every conversation had by the characters.
Xavier feels his pain. Malia watched Titanic all summer. Day in and day out and he had to endure it. He couldn't even doze off for longer than fifteen minutes without her flicking him back awake. If it wasn't her, it was Janae.
"It's not depressing." Malia defends.
"Yes, it is." Xavier and Namjoon both say. Malia side eyes her boyfriend and he rubs her thigh comfortingly.
"What do you want to go do, Lia?" Janae ignores their badgering. She wants to make sure that they'll have some sort of fun while they're gon.
"Mmmm." She rubs Namjoon's scalp as she thinks about it. "We can go that restaurant with the spinny thing at the top that lets us see the whole city while we eat?"
"I think we need reservations for that one, baby." Joon tells her. "Also, I think it's closed."
"Okay... then let's gooo...." She bites the skin of her lip as she looks at the floor. She can't think of anyone else.
"We can watch The Polar Express with cocoa and order takeout. We can watch the Grinch too." He makes a suggestion seeing that Malia is struggling to come up with one.
"That's a good idea. We can do that." She agrees.
Janae and Xavier put their shoes and coats on before bidding them goodbye. It's almost ten and the good parties will be starting at 11 or so. She wants to freshen up before going being that she's it sweats and a one of Xavier's hoodies.
