The final day of the the school year has come and gone. The last day on the campus for their sophomore year was a weird one. Finals were done and over with, leaving nothing to do but pack and get a head start on things for the next year.
Xavier was the first to leave, having a longer drive to get home. Malia and the basketball team were the last to leave. The dance coaches had a long conversation with Malia about how important her health and safety is.
If she's going to keep her captain position the way that she and everyone else wants her to, then she needs to show and hold the responsibility for it. What she did with with her injury was the exact opposite of that. If it happens again, hopefully it never does, she's expected to report her injuries the proper way so they can be effectively dealt with.
Her spot of captain will never be at risk unless she's done something completely outlandish or it's an injury that permanently impacts her dance career. Then it would have to be taken. But again, nobody wants this, so they just want her to be responsible.
She promised she'd take care of her health first and foremost and that she'd be an even better captain for her junior year. Her coaches were happy to hear that, giving her her big hugs before she and Namjoon left that day.
They've been home for a week and everyone's been doting on Malia like she's completely unable to fend for herself. She not completely against it but she did complain to Xavier that Joon wouldn't let her help water the plants. To which he replied that he probably wouldn't have let her do it even if she wasn't injured.
Namjoon and Mr. Ward have a very specific way of doing things with their garden and god forbid anybody not hold the hose at the right angle.
It's also been a very interesting week for Namjoon as well. His mother and Malia's mother both showed him their magazines that they got. When he received them, he mailed them right to their addresses, not bothering to open them. He left them have that excitement and they called him after to state their joy.
The sports cards are being released next month and Mr. Ward has already put in the preorders for all of them. He had an alarm on his phone and a reminder to make sure he was up when the preorder opened at midnight.
Namjoon has been more looks from strangers than before while out doing the simplest of things. Take now, for example. He, Malia, Janae and Xavier have decided to go out for breakfast. They're sitting in the parking lot right now as Janae calls her mom to see if she wants anything to go when they leave.
Namjoon leans against his car with Malia leaning back against him. They're watching a video of his highlights on his phone. He's dunking on a player when they hear his name called.
"Hey, it's Namjoon!" A kid's voice says excitedly. "And Lia."
Malia and Joon both looks up and smile as soon as they see him. He has to be about 10 or 11. With his dreads in a ponytail on his head and the blue brackets of his braces showing, he's the cutest sight in the world right now.
"Hi." Malia waves to him kindly.
"Andre, don't talk to her."
Her smile drops immediately as she sees Gianna.
"Why not? They can write on the back of my switch. Look." He holds it up for sister to see and she shakes her head.
"No. We not talking to them. Go get in the car."
"You're so mean. That's why I don't like you now."
"If he wants me to sign it, it's fine. He's a kid. You don't have to drag him into this." Namjoon says as he holds his hand out for the marker in the little boy's hand. "You don't even have a valid reason to dislike me anyway. It's your fault."
