+NAMJOON+It felt weird watching the girls perform without Lia. Something wasn't sitting right with me about it. She kinda... makes the team for me. I mean, I know they're still dancers and they can do it without her but it's just... I don't like it. And I know they feel based on the way they left her spot open. They didn't try to fill it with anyone. No one took her position. They didn't even change the formation to accommodate her absence.
That is their captain's spot and said captain is.. in a hospital bed... watching from the TV with my mom. She insisted that she could stay in the hospital by herself. That nobody else needed to miss out on my game because of her. To which literally everyone looked at her like she was stupid.
Xavier sat right down her hospital bed and got comfortable with the extra blankets provided by a nurse. My mom sat in the hospital's version of a cushioned chair. They're not very comfortable at all but she's making do, I guess. Mr. and Mrs. Ward are in the bleachers with Janae and her parents. They wanted my mother to be here instead but she told them that if worse came to worst, she'd prefer to be the one there with Malia because of her medical background.
One wrong move by a nurse and she's going to be a very angry woman. And because of that, I asked Xavier to stay. He has an odd way of being able to calm people down when he, himself isn't mad. He needs a major change. I don't know why he wants to be a teacher when his route could easily be for social work or something. But it's what he wants so who am I to deter him.
Speaking of the man, I have never seen one singular human get told off by so many people at once. All the parents and then Coach Netta. Janae made him call and tell the woman himself since he knew about Malia's injury for so long and said nothing.
It's safe to say that I don't think he'll be keeping any more injury or wellbeing secrets again.
"Aye, Joon!" Hakeem yells my name and waves me over. I get up from the bench and walk over to where everyone else is standing on the sidelines. We're running over plays and for the third time this game, I got distracted.
"Wassup?"
"There's a whole group of sponsors here from a board. There's like five other dudes that I saw that came last year too."
"I know three of them for a fact got niggas pulled to the league." Jay says.
"Yeah, they did. They sponsor a couple dudes every year and at least two always go. Always separate teams based on who they sign with but still. That's crazy." Tyrell confirms.
"Y'all making me nervous." I say as I watch the TV screen. They all turn to look at me, smacking their teeth.
"Nervous, why? This is the championship game. We made it.. again. Do you know how much we're doing this year? How much we've done?" Midas questions.
"Yeah but it's bigger than that."
"I know it's bigger but I'm just saying. Think on the positive. Stop being a realist for a second. Be delusional for the next," he glances at the shot clock. "..two minutes and 26 seconds."
The whistle blows and we all look at our coach.
"Game time! They're up six. Overlap the gap. Joon, before we go, what's the update on our dance captain?" He veers completely left and Tyrell snickers under his breath. Midas covers his mouth with his shirt as he laughs.
"My mom texted me twenty minutes ago and said she's feeling okay. They're probably going to discharge her tomorrow morning."
He gives me a curt nod. "Glad to hear it. Make sure she keeps off it, will ya?"
