+NAMJOON+It's official. We're getting sports cards. Nathan said it a few days ago and now we're sitting in the gym with our coaches, Nathan's father and the Dean about it. They're all explaining what this means for us and how big of a deal it is for us to have them.
We know that already. It's just sinking in now just how lucky we are to be getting them. It's insane. My face on a card is going to be a collectible item. That's so surreal to think about.
"Along with the sports cards being made and in production, there's also going to be an interview for the campus magazine. Ahead of the release of the cards, we want to get your names and faces out there. We want to get as much of the public as we can on this, amp up the hype." Nathan's father explains.
"Georgia Tech has a lot of talent, has a lot of potential and we want to showcase that. You guys are more than just a basketball team. By featuring you in the magazine, we can showcase who each of you are individually and how you come together to make the team work the way that you do."
"This also gives current sponsors and potential ones the chance to see how you function in both of those aspects as well." Dean Kim states. "They want a player that's able to keep up with the sport but they also want a good man to back the athleticism. Being an all rounder helps push your publicity."
"Exactly. He's right. It could also be a failsafe. I've seen it done. Even if for whatever reason, you don't graduate as a Georgia Tech player, you'll still be scouted right out of graduation. Maybe even before then."
Dean Kim and Nathan's father nod.
"So what happens today then? What are we doing?" Tyrell asks. A question we're all interested in.
Coach asked us to come to our 3 o'clock practice in casual clothing and to not bring our gym bags. The group text and the email just said to bring whatever we'd bring if we were going out with friends.
All I have is some chapstick, my wallet and my phone. Probably should've brought a charger but I didn't think that far. Usually when I go out, Lia's with me so I don't need to bring like... necessity stuff. She carries them in her bag.
My phone is all the way charged and on low power mode though so I'll be fine.
"We're taking you guys to get fitted. It's a photo shoot. We need accurate sizes, measurements. There's going to be a style team there to work with you on looks that you like and they'll come up with ones that they think best suits you as well." Nathan's dad says as he looks around at all of us.
"Wait, we're getting professional pictures?" Midas asks. "Like not one's by the school photographers?"
"Yes. These are experienced photographers that work in the field of modeling every day. The fashion department of the campus actually works with them for internships during their schooling and job references after graduation."
Dean Kim says as he looks at Midas to answer his question.
"Why we still in here then? The hell. I'm ready for my close-up." Hakeem says as he starts walking for the door.
I smack my teeth and everybody starts laughing.
"There's a bus out there. Load up. We'll leave in ten." Coach shouts to us as we walk out of the gym.
As I'm walking to the door, I look around and see Dean Kim talking to Nathan's dad. His hands are in the pockets of his nicely pressed slacks. He smiles as he talks and my lip curls as I look away. We gather by the bus as he gets closer and I look at the ground.
I have no problem with Dean Kim. And yet... his presence is irking me.
"How are you feeling , Namjoon? Are you excited?" He asks me, stopping next to me to talk.
