(I know I'm on hiatus but I couldn't help myself from posting this. I've been wanting to release this chapter for a while now. I was looking at the fanart and comments you guys sent and I was motivated to do more😍😍 you guys are awesome for making the queen of procrastination not procrastinate!!)
I nervously tapped the end of my pen against a screen, reading the translation from the control brains room over and over like the meaning will just appear once I've read it enough.
I couldn't get what Red told me out of my head.
"....the control brains created a species that they deem perfect."
It wasn't a stretch to think that, in their arrogance, the control brains believed that. However, it was such a comment combined with the translation that led me to a new outlook on the text ahead.
It felt wrong. Red and purple are always stating that irk is perfect, and yet both were aware of the harsh rule regarding their relationship. My friends like Spunk, Shloopsmorp, Bob and Jen all had been treated horrifically in both the past and the present. And the nail in the coffin appeared to be the texts quote which states "Those who have and will be created will never be the result that's sought", implying that perfection is nonexsistant.
So what does it mean? Do the control brains really believe they have created a perfect species? And if not, How do they plan on fixing it?
I wracked my brain for answers, but only received a headache instead. I was feeling overwhelmed and I had no clue on who to talk to. I didn't want any close friends getting involved out of fear of putting them in danger. I couldn't talk to the tallest about it, they were probably the control brains biggest pawns in whatever plans they had. And I certainly couldn't just go to any random irken about this, it wouldn't be safe for me or them.
My only real option was to keep my brain active and keep my mouth shut on the matter.
*knock, knock, knock*
I rotated in my seat at the sudden sound of the door. I wasn't really sure who to expect, but I didn't expect Shloopsmorp to walk through the door as I shoved my translator and supplies into the desk draw.
"Oh, hey Shloo!" I spoke, approaching him slowly. "Is Jen Okay?"
"She's fine, just a little embarrassed. Even if she has no reason to be." He crossed his arms upon the last comment, clearly frustrated at the female Irkens tendencies.
I couldn't help but wonder about the two Irkens. Shloopsmorp for his relationship with Jen, and whether there was a spark of feelings between them. Jen for her broken antennae and deep underlying anxiety. Despite these questions, however, I still found myself unable to ask about them. They were the friends I had talked to the least, and yet there was so much background to each of them.
"Did you need me for anything?"
"Actually, would you mind taking a shift today? Dot has been having a rough time wrangling some of those cafeteria abominations and you usually have higher advantage over them than other staff."
That was true. My size and increasing strength was often useful in the monster fighting aspect of my job and thus resulted in me gaining a more permanent position as the default foo-d fighter.
I hadn't any issue with the job. It was messy and tough but it kept me busy and helped build muscle. I even gained new friends from it.
"Yeah, I'll help. No problem" I expressed with a smile, standing from my seat and following him out of the door.
