25. Tall evasion shouldn't be possible

(Sorry this took so long everybody! I've been feeling a little unmotivated and I've been nothing but busy.

I can't promise frequent updates from now on but I can certainly do my best to keep it consistent. Love you all and I hope you enjoy this chapter)

I tapped my foot impatiently whilst waiting for the tallest to finally come out of the control room. They had just been completely bamboozled by Zim and effectively lost control of the massive for a good ten minutes.

That was mostly the reason I had been tightly gripping a handrail on the control room door, attempting to keep my balance when the Massive's speed suddenly increased and the piloting became sloppy. I was sure I was going to tumble to the floor but I persisted.

The tallest had refused to talk to me earlier and had claimed they were too focused on the trial. Eventually, I annoyed them into deciding to meet me afterwards so we could talk, Purple being more willing than Red.

My thoughts could only wander around different possibilities for their silence and hesitation. On one hand, I speculated that they may just have a lot on their minds, but I couldn't shake this feeling that there was more to it.

The ship had started to slow down and the original pilots had seemed to have taken over. My own concern was wether Zim had been piloting in the direction of Earth or not, and I was terrified for the answer.

I slowly eased my grip on the handrail, still feeling tension in my palms.

But my main concern shot toward the door where Zim and his partner had finally emerged, holding each others hands as they walked towards what I could only assume was their mode of travel. My eyes briefly locked with the other human, a mutual form of understanding built between us as if to say "we both have a lot on our plates".

And she'd be right. It's no secret that Zim was destructive. And it was also no secret that the tallest could be just as difficult. The only difference was I was more like an undermined species, whereas she was in an honest relationship. Zim clearly held her in  high respect and treated her as his equal, a dynamic that I did not share with the tallest.

But the two were definitely being evasive. Neither wanted to speak with me about my concerns earlier and it seems they were prolonging the conversation further when Zim finally left.

The doors were wide open, and both had been muttering to one another anxiously. I couldn't make out the words, but their hushed whispers certainly sounded more than concerned.

What are they hiding?

I could continue to wonder about it, or I could do something to find out. I decided on the latter option.

"You two gonna tell me why you're acting so sketchy?" I questioned, marching forward with crossed arms and a serious expression.

Both turned around with hitched breaths, looking a little off gaurd.

It didn't help that purple was a stuttering mess.

"Wh-wha? We-? Us? Sketchy? Why wo-uld you even suggest that we get, that we...heh....uh...Red take over!"

The purple leader pushed his friend forward, avoiding eye contact with either one of us whilst he moved a few feet back, stuffing his face with donuts so he wouldn't have to say anything.

His volunteer glared back in response, sighing when he finally accepted that he would have to take the reigns.

"Okay, human. You asked to talk to us? What's the issue?" He asked, turning his full attention to me.
