The control brains, as Red had called them, were far from what I expected. These large, egg shaped machines had emitted a strange aura from the moment I entered the room and had made their presence so discreet, yet so mighty.
Even without seeing them, the control brains had radiated this vast amount of power and dominance over the irken armada. They were possibly the only thing on this ship that actually had me trembling at first meeting.
"Greetings, Human." Spoke the one in the center.
It had a deep masculine voice with a subtle echo filtered over it. A truly fitting tone for such a scary mechanical presence. As it spoke, the magenta spots flickered with each syllable and flashed pink hues over the tallest and myself.
"Uhm...greetings?" I spoke shyly, shuffling my feet as I looked between them.
This truly wasnt like me. Acting so nervous was something very foreign to me, so now meeting beings who could bring out that shyness certainly implied a sense of danger was afoot.
"The human appears to be alerted. Perhaps it is afraid" spoke another echoey voice from the left.
This voice was rather feminine and had a rather motherly tone. It was speaking in normal volume, as if I wasnt even there.
The feminine control brain made me feel a little more at ease. They reminded me of a kind elderly woman that you could make small talk with. Its voice was the most comforting thing about any of these computer-based beings.
"I believe we should get straight to the point" insisted the one on the right.
This ones voice was more raspy and held neutral tone. It was difficult to tell if it was male or female and remained echoey. A genuinely relaxing voice was the best way to describe it. But that was less comforting due to the volume it was speaking in. Maybe if it was slightly lower in volume then I would feel more at ease.
"I dont understand." I started, pulling the machines focus onto myself. "What exactly are you?"
The tallest remained quiet, not even flinching. It was as if they were no longer alive and had been turned to stone. They almost seemed unaware of my presence at all.
"We are the control brains. Powerful entities that designed and created the entirety of the irken empire. In simple terms, we are the brains of Irks hive mind." Claimed the middle brain.
The female sounding one spoke up once more.
"We are here to reassure you that your in good hands."
I shook my head and bit my lip in disagreement. These beings. These entities that they claimed to be. It was all hard to believe they even wanted to fix this situation. If they were really the almighty being they expressed, then theyd probably just send a ship to send me home. Or deal with me in another, less humane, manner.
"I'm sorry to sound ungrateful or disrespectful. But I havent exactly been feeling safe on this ship" I admitted, looking between the two irken leaders in an accusing gesture.
They both flinched in response, not making a sound.
It made sense that Irk shared a hive mind....A REALLY STUPID hive mind.
"Well what would make you more comfortable here, human?" Spoke the neutral voice, in a condescending tone.
Despite the overwhelming amount of sarcasm and malice I felt from them, I decided to give them an answer. It was easier said then done.
I looked up at them anxiously, feeling the judgement in their...many eyes. Even glances from the tallest had struck through me. It was like being in court.
