"Whats going on with you and purple?" I questioned, stepping into a private room, cutting straight to the chase.
Red, in the other hand seemed slightly frazzled and out of it, likely still in shock from being dragged out as suddenly as he was. I would've talked to purple first, but seeing him that angry was both new and scary so I didn't want to take chances. My best bet was the second most scary option.
Red briefly shook his head, regaining back the information he was struggling to piece together and finally collecting himself. He crossed his arms with an angry grown, his gaze stuck stubbornly to the floor.
"Purples just being stupid, nothing new..." as he spoke his voice got lower, trailing off slowly as if he was unsure of his own accusation of the other ex-tallest.
I'd never seen the two fight before. Of course, they had silly arguments or weird conflicts over snacks. But whatever was happening here was bigger. This conflict was serious and they either hurt each other or one of them hurt the other and is too stubborn to admit they're wrong.
I looked over at Red once again.
"How so?"
The irken released a heavy sigh, taking a seat on a nearby sofa and leaning against the arm with a lazy look on his face. I sat beside him, awaiting the potentially ridiculous reason to come out of his mouth.
"Purple is mistaking his obsession with power for admiration...or something like that..." he spoke, half-lidded eyes drooping with each syllable.
"How do you know?" I responded, a single brow raised in confusion.
Red thought for a moment, putting his words together in his head to see if it makes sense. Furthermore, it seemed as if he was trying to understand the question and ended up coming to an unsatisfying conclusion.
"I just know. Purples always been out of touch with his emotions." He attempted to justify, holding up a finger analytically.
My expression went slack.
'You're one to talk' I thought to myself, watching the Irken clumsily explain how he was right and Purple was "definitely wrong". In fact, the extent of how much he tried to get me on his side was just proof that he didn't have a very strong argument.
Sounds like denial to me.
"Red, I think Purple knows his own feelings better than you do." I stated clearly, directly.
It was a simple problem to figure out. Clearly, Purple feels invalidated because Red told him that he isn't feeling what he believes he's feeling. And it's not like Red meant to make him feel that way, but he was way out of line to say whatever he said.
"Whatever this is about, you can't just tell someone that their feelings aren't real or important. You just have to accept them, whether they make you upset or not." I explain, placing a hand on his shoulder.
"I just don't understand why he has to feel all of this now. It's frustrating!"
He growled lowly, his body tensing up.
"Why are you so upset?"
"Because I wanted to be the one he admires!"
It slipped out. He obviously had no intention of telling me that, shown in his wide eyed expression and gritted teeth. He was very quick to look away.
He was a flustered mess.
I would've teased him in another circumstance. But he was clearly holding in a lot of anger. It hurt him.
I knew how much it hurt to see someone you love fall for another.
It was clear he was in love with Purple. Irkens just didn't have the words for it, being a species forced into hiding their relationships or straight up not having one at all. Red was no exception, holding in these feelings and being frustrated when they finally leave the armada to find that Purple has moved on.
