(Warning??: flirting and awkwardness)
I scrolled through options of disguises on Purples Pak, which we had been using to conceal our forms in convincing ways. I had watched Purple go first, assuring him that I would feel more comfortable if he showed me what to expect.
In doing so, the device opened a large capsual with a screen, presenting previews of each disguise option and giving me an idea of what would be particularly convincing.
Purple had already chosen his disguise, a green syncorian male with a purple hue releasing from his antennae and lighting up the room for the brief time he spent in it. His eyes were a slightly pinker shade and he had darker patterns detailing his form, almost like birthmarks or freckles.
Red came in soon after, entering as a creature known as a Uefure. He looked almost humanoid, only diverted from his now red skin and long tail. His eyes were blacked out with white pupils and his antennae were replaced by fin like appendages, similar to the fins coming from his false tail. He looked almost like a shark-human hybrid.
Each disguise suited them. Purple had the more relaxed and intellectual nature of the syncorians and according to Red, the Uefure race was known for their powerful and authoritative nature. Both were arguably suited for such.
They had left some time ago, growing bored with my indecisiveness. I wasn't mentally prepared for the process, briefly witnessing purple go through the transition with a sudden yelp as if it was mildly painful. Even mild pain was undesirable, so I found myself procrastinating greatly. Still, I knew lingering wouldn't make it any less painful and I knew it wouldn't change the fact that I needed to make a decision, especially since purple couldnt leave his pak off for too much longer.
So I decided, tapping the option on screen and allowing the capsule to entrap me. I braced myself, not entirely comfortable with the compressed space. I was certainly lucky purple was quite tall. Otherwise, I wouldn't have been able to fit in this thing.
I could feel shifts, movements, stretches from the machine. It was pulling against me and it was a harsh attack. I wasn't entirely sure what it was doing to me or how it was aware of my form, but it wasn't a concern as I was tossed uncomfortably in the machines hold.
It wasn't necessarily painful, like I presumed. Moreso, that it was sudden and unexpected with its methods, quickly putting the disguise together flawlessly and pulling back to reveal the final result.
The capsule opened, giving me room to step out in a shaken daze, recovering from the transformation gradually.
It didn't take too long for me to find a mirror, realising that a human was no longer looking back at me.
Instead, I saw an Irken.
I had to step toward and away the mirror every so often to make sure it was really me, analysing my new features carefully. It was very much like an advanced hologram, hovering over my form. The first thing I noticed was my lack of hair. Still, it didn't seem to be good enough to cover it convincingly, so the machine gave me a hood to hide the seams and imperfections in the look.
Speaking of, the hood had two holes in it, giving enough room for two long antennae to poke out loosely and hang down in a casual, laid back state. Furthermore, my eyes had been covered by pink optics in place of my usual E/c irises.
And then of course my skin. My skin had been tinted green, covering every inch of me and completing my irken appearance.
I didn't even recognise myself. Which is exactly how I knew it was going to do the job.
I actually quite liked my Irken look. The preview seemed even more accurate than I thought. And I very much appreciated it.
I wasn't sure what compelled me to choose an irken disguise. Maybe it was the irony, maybe it was the preview. But whatever reason it may be, I was glad I chose it.
