24. Spunks Requiem

(Sorry this took so long. I have been a little busy with my Uni applications)

I found myself gawking at the alien before me, a sheepish expression adorning his features even as he gazed at the floor solemn. He tossed his hands between each other, adjusting them anxiously as he awaited my response with hitched breath and insecurity.

"You had feelings for... Tallest Miyuki?" I inquired carefully, trying to decipher whether I heard him right or it was all imagined.

His slow and silent nod only confirmed this.

I bit my lip at this revelation, attempting to figure out what the right words to comfort him would be. I couldn't find a single utterance, a single phrase that would give him solace in this moment. After all, he just told me the love of his life is a dead person.

"Did you tell her how you feel?" I finally spoke, not words of comfort but words nonetheless.

I almost felt obliged to know these things but I couldn't figure out why. Maybe it was just a bad feeling but I truly felt some kind of disturbance in the air. It wasn't easy to depict exactly why it was disturbing but I felt anxiety weigh on my chest heavily.

"No..." he paused, "I could've caused some serious issues for her and myself if I told her so...I kept it to myself. Irk knows she didn't need anymore drama in her life."

I hummed in interest. Just what kind of drama did he refer to? Was it really that bad for Irkens to have romantic partners? And why?

I never asked him these questions, too afraid of hurting him further than he already was. If he never told Miyuki how he felt then he must've lacked so much closure when she died. And what about her? Did she feel the same?

I could only speculate, whilst spunk stood from his seat and wiped his watery eyes with shaky breath.

He grabbed my hand and dragged me back to the trial room after a brief moment of silence, not giving me much time to respond. He quietly muttered something about not wanting to draw attention and pulled me along.

For his small stature, he was pretty damn strong.

I didn't protest against his actions. He was likely not ready to disclose information about his relationship with Miyuki and it was also possible he wanted to see the verdict of the trial as well.

We couldn't have walked in at a more dramatic moment....

"She is my mate! And you can call me defective all you like!" yelled an angry looking Zim, wrapping his arms tightly around a human female as he yelled towards the entire armada "but my love and loyalty to her is boundless!!"

It seemed ironic that Spunks secret love for Miyuki had just clashed with Zims revelation to having his own secret relationship. It was not taken well and there was a collective gasp throughout the room, every single irken frozen in disbelief.

"This is a disturbing revelation...." spoke mainbrain after the initial shock finally settled in and everyone began to process the situation easier.

The silence lasted a solid minute, just filled with nothing but awkwardness and confusion along with dread. But Zim and his partner were tightly glued to one another despite the obvious anxiety they were feeling in that moment....

"Now...lets break for lunch" exclaimed thembrain, allowing the audience to release a breath of relief and appreciation.

Two soldiers escorted Zim out of the room, along with his significant other, and harshly pushed him towards the massive. I could only assume that everyone was going to eat in the cafeteria.
