(Man, I am so sorry that this chapter is so late. I did NOT intend to make you guys wait so long.
I will be posting a lot less next year due to university so, providing stuff goes well, I will try to put out more chapters around or before Christmas.
Thank you everyone for your patience and support. I know how frustrating it is waiting for an update on a story, especially when the author is useless at deadlines and schedules. Your all so sweet for continuing to support me despite my awful timing. Seriously, love you guys, you're awesome!)
Now that we had set off to meet Courtney's allies, things had begun to set in. We're really doing this.
We're about to travel across the universe in order to destroy the very beings that got us into this mess. The very beings who were deemed the most important and semi immortal members of the Irken armada, an already deadly force even without the giant mechanical creatures.
Actually, it hadn't even crossed my mind until now, but I had no idea what even to call the control brains. It was almost certain that they were sentient beings, as Thembrain very clearly despised me. Any unfeeling computer would be indifferent regardless of how much trouble I caused for them. But I couldn't be sure of their origins.
Were they highly sentient AI? Were they uploaded consciousness? Or perhaps they're just organic machines, like their species just looks and acts mechanical.
I thought back to the moment Red, Purple and I had attempted to escape. Particularly, I thought about the moment I cut off Thembrains tendril looking limb and the way it seemed to "bleed". Did that hurt them? Could they feel pain?
I watched the stars pass us by at a steady pace, watching through a small window in the back of the ship, starting to wonder why all of a sudden I was starting to realise, question, think about this stuff. I was surprised I hadn't lingered on the subject longer, as it really occurred that the control brains themselves were even more of a mystery than why they even want me.
Purple had walked through the door, glancing my way as he entered and offering the smallest of smiles.
"Hey," He greeted, stepping toward me until he found himself sat by my side. "You okay?"
I hummed in thought, glancing back toward the window, focusing on a particular star as it got smaller and smaller.
"I don't know. I'm feeling a lot of things right now." I confessed, leaning into Purple's shoulder. "I've been thinking a lot"
The Irken snorted "that's dangerous."
......
....
...
"Sorry..." He whispered "about what?"
"Everything." I murmered, "The control brains, Spunk, Courtney's allies. This Journey just started but it already feels too slow..."
I couldn't bring myself to look up at him but I felt his eyes piercing through the back of my skull. I wasn't even sure whether or not I wanted to see what kind of expression he wore but I remained unmoving from my place.
Purple didn't dare say a word after that. His silence was louder than anything he could've possibly voiced regardless and it only felt more constrictive as the time passed on.
But the world seemed to stop spinning so much when I felt warmth over my knuckles, a gentle caress ghosting the skin of my hand as if it would crack under the slightest touch. My head remained still but my eyes flickered over to the new sensation, finding an ungloved, three fingered hand slowly entwining with mine.
