(AUGUST POV)We meet up with the army of grounders before camping just right outside of where the acid fog can't reach. Enough to let the mountain men know that we are there. Clarke and I are in Lexa's tent as we look over the plans for the war. Lexa is laying down trying to rest.
"What if we're wrong and cutting the power doesn't disengage the locks?" Clarke asks.
"Your people said it will. You should rest, Clarke, August," Lexa says as she sits up.
"We could blow the doors manually," I say answering Clarke's question. Even though I'm still beyond mad at her, I want my people and Bellamy out of that mountain.
"Plans don't last very long in battle. Tiring yourselves with questions already asked and answered is a waste of energy," Lexa says as she walks over to us.
"People died for this, Lexa," I snarl.
"It has to work," Clarke says.
"You're doing what I did when I first took command. We can't move forward and it's giving you too much time to think. Once Bellamy shuts down the acid fog and the battle begins, everything will be clear," Lexa explains as she pours herself a drink.
"What if he can't?" Clarke asks."What if it was too dangerous and I sent him in there, alone, anyway?" I ask worriedly.
"You both care about him," Lexa says.
"I care about all of them," Clarke says and I nod in agreement.
"Yet you worry about him more," Lexa says as she looks at me.
"I love him. And no love is not weakness. Love makes you stronger," I tell her with a glare."We couldn't have kept us alive all this time without him. We need him," Clarke adds. "And now I might be the one who gets him killed." Clarke looks at me sadly but I show no emotion.
"That's what it means to be a leader, Clarke, August. The truth is, we must look into the eyes of our warriors and say, 'go die for me.'" Lexa explains."If only it were that easy," I tell her before glaring at Clarke. "You can handle this since you seem to be able to handle everything." I then leave the tent and head to find Octavia, Lincoln, and Indra. As I exit the tent I find Octavia sitting by a fire near Lexa's tent. I go sit by her.
"Hey," I say with a smile as I sit down. "Want to put my war paint on me?" I nudge her arm.
"Sure," She says with a smile. She does my war paint before we settle back down by the fire.
Clarke then comes out of Lexa's tent and sits across the fire from us. I send her a glare and Octavia notices.
"Everything okay?" Clarke asks Octavia.
"I'm going over it and over it in my head, just trying to figure out how you're still alive," Octavia says as she looks up at Clarke.
"What are you talking about?" Clarke asks and I can't help but snort. Octavia is a smart girl."I saw you in Tondc before the missile hit. I know you, Clarke. Something's wrong. And then you and Lexa disappear and just happen to survive. Plus, every time August sees you she does nothing but glare at you. So, that means you did something wrong. Tell me you didn't know it was coming," Octavia explains to her.
"Octavia..." Clarke tries.
