The First On The Ground

We Are Grounders (Part 1)

(AUGUST POV)

Octavia and I were working on the lookout station, making it more hidden for the gunners. I hadn't talked to Bellamy or Raven; I couldn't even look at them. Raven and Jasper worked on the land mines while Bellamy had everyone doing something. All of the sudden there was a shot fired near Octavia and me.

"Hey! What the hell is the matter with you?" Bellamy yells as he starts walking over.

"I'm sorry, man. I fell asleep. I've been on watch all day," The gunner explains as he stands up.

"We've all been on watch all day! That bullet was one less dead grounder," Bellamy says as he slams the gunner up against the tree.

"Bell, you're scaring people," Octavia states.

"They should be scared! The bomb on the bridge bought us some time to prepare, but that time is up! The grounders are out there right now, waiting for us to leave and picking us off one by one when we do! Clarke, Finn, and Monty are gone, probably dead, and if you want to be next, I can't stop you, but no guns are leaving this camp! This camp is the only thing keeping us alive! Get back to work!" Bellamy yells out before walking off.

"Hey, I'm going to go check on Myles," I tell Octavia before walking to the dropship. As I'm checking over Myles, I hear someone come into the dropship. I glance over and see Bellamy before quickly turning back to checking on Myles. Bellamy goes over to his battle strategy map. Every so often I could feel him looking over at me. Jasper then walks into the dropship and I notice that he gives Bellamy a glare.
"Don't you think I want to go after them, too?" Bellamy asks him.

"If it was you out there, you think Monty, Clarke, or Finn would hide behind these walls?" Jasper counter asks.

"No. They'd go after me. Then they'd be dead, too. I am doing what I think is right for the group," Bellamy answers.

"It's funny, you didn't think that way when Octavia and August went missing," Jasper says before walking towards the ladder.

"Where are you going?" Bellamy asks him.

"More gunpowder for your minefield sir," Jasper says with a salute before heading up the ladder. I sigh before heading for the ladder to comfort my friend.

"Water please," Myles calls out. I stop and go to turn around to go get him some.

"I'll get it," Bellamy says before leaving the dropship. I then head up the ladder.

"Hey, Jas," I say as I enter the level. He looks over at me sadly. I then pull him into a hug. "Just say the word and I'll leave to go find them. Bellamy doesn't control me and I won't have to take one of his precious guns to do it either."

"Thanks, August. You're the best," Jasper says. "How soon?"

"I'll leave in the next 30 minutes since Bellamy will be back in the dropship by then," I answer him and he nods. He grabs the gunpowder and heads down the ladder.

(3rd PERSON POV)

Jasper heads down the ladder but stops when he hears Murphy. August then catches up with him and gives him a confused look. Jasper puts a finger to his mouth as a signal to be quiet.

"This is for tying the noose that they hung me with. Say hi to Conner for me," Jasper and August hear Murphy say. Jasper then continues down the ladder but stops as he sees Murphy removing some plastic away from Myles' face, which is now dead. "He stopped breathing. I was I was trying to help him." Jasper nods his head before getting off the ladder and quickly glancing back up at August. Jasper then looks over at his gun that's on the table. Murphy notices and grabs the gun before Jasper can.
