(AUGUST POV)

The next morning, I awoke to find Bellamy still sleeping. He looks so peaceful, compared to how he looked last night. It was only the second time I've seen him break like that and it honestly scares me for what is to come. He blames what happened on himself when he had no idea what would happen. I get out of the bed without waking Bellamy and get dressed for the day while putting my weapons on. I then kiss Bellamy on the head before leaving the room in search of my father. My father and I discuss the coming war and how he had heard from Clarke that Ice Nation took the blame. He decides to call a council meeting.

"Best we can tell, Mount Weather was destroyed by an internal self-destruct mechanism," I explain.

"It worked as designed," Abby comments.
"49 of our citizens were lost," My father says.
"So when do we strike back?" Pike asks.

"We don't," Abby answers.

"The Ice Nation took credit for the attack, and the Commander will bring them to justice," I explain.
"So now we're trusting Grounders to punish Grounders? Now, I'm sorry, Madam Chancellor, but I lost more than half of my remaining people yesterday and 4 times that many since we landed. Now, in my experience, Grounders understand one thing strength. Hey. It's simple. We need to hit them now. We need to hit them hard, leave no survivors," Pike says and I can't help but glare at the man.
"There's nothing simple about this," My father tells him.
"This attack by the Ice Nation was against Lexa, not us," I say.
"So, are you saying this isn't our fight?" Pike asks as he glares at me.

"She's saying we were collateral damage in someone else's war," My father answers.
"But it's not someone else's war anymore. Look. If we don't defend ourselves, they will take what we have. That's what they do. Mark my words. The Grounders are coming for us," Pike says angrily. I go to say something but Abby beats me to it.
"We'll take it under advisement," Abby tells him. "Meeting adjourned." Pike walks to the door before turning back and glaring at me. He opens the door to reveal Bellamy on the other side. Pike and the other three council members leave.
"After the election tomorrow, he's either of your problems," Abby tells my father and me. My father and I are both running for Chancellor. Abby then walks off and Bellamy walks into the room. I send him a small smile which is not returned.
"Sir," Bellamy says getting my father's attention.

"Why aren't you at your post?" My father asks him. Bellamy then sits his guard jacket on the table. I look at him shocked. "Don't do this."
"49 of the people I swore to protect died yesterday because I left," Bellamy explains.
"That's not your fault, Bellamy," I tell him.
"Place the blame where it belongs, on the Ice Nation," My father tells him.
"Ice Nation didn't tell Gina to stay there. That was me," Bellamy says with tears in his eyes. My father then puts a comforting hand on Bellamy's shoulder.
"Given the information you had at the time, you made a reasonable choice. You were trying to save lives," My father explains to him.
"But I didn't," Bellamy says before letting out a sigh. He then leaves the room.

"Bellamy!" I call after him and go to chase after him.

"August come in. This is Clarke. August come in," Clarke's voice comes over the radio I have. I stop but want to go after Bellamy. "August, I need you please." I sigh before I grab the radio and head back over to my father.

"Clarke, this is August come in," I say into the radio. "What is it?"

"I need you to come to Polis. The Ice Nation Queen challenged Lexa. Lexa is going to fight Roan. She could die and..." Clarke says before I cut her off.

"If she dies we all die," I say as I look to my father who was listening to us. "I'm on my way. Try talking to Roan or something. Just buy me some time to get there."
