Maya's father was a military man. He had been sent to Sigonella Air Base, a military base located in the far north of Syracuse, about fifteen kilometers south of Catania in Sicily.
The United State Navy had been using this base for many years. It was also the base for the NATO AGS surveillance system.
The Bishop family had moved to Sicily three months ago. There was Lane, his wife Katherine and their two children, Mason and Maya.
Like everyone else living on the base, Maya was going to have to go to school with other kids her age.
Maya was quite a loner, very athletic, and wanted to follow in her father's footsteps and become a soldier.
She and her older brother Mason were very close. Moving often because of her father's job, she could only count on him.
He was her best friend but also her personal coach. She was doing a good part of the sports competitions of the base. Or at least the bases she had lived on. Running, 10,000 meters, but also climbing, kick boxing, among others.
She was pretty, blonde with blue eyes and had a muscular body.
