The approach of the Thanksgiving holiday was always complicated for Maya. Her brother had passed away a few days before the holiday, which he loved so much.
Maya and Carina had started to receive responses from the invitation cards they had sent out a little over a month ago. So far everyone was coming. One person however, dreaded, had not yet answered, but Maya knew that Carina spoke from time to time to Gabriella.
After a few tries, they had finally chosen a restaurant that they both liked. They had opted for a French meal, from the restaurant they had loved since Maya's birthday. And where they brought their friends and family whenever they had the opportunity.
They had prepared many things in common, only their wedding outfits would be done without each other. Besides, Carina had an appointment at a bridal store the day before Thanksgiving. Jo had insisted on being there, and since she and Alex were coming for the holidays, it had been more convenient.
Andy had managed to get Alberto to come to the States. The girls would be moving in just one month, just before Christmas, and he would be arriving, if all went well, just after the holidays. His visa was on track.
Maya and the A-Team would be working the day before Thanksgiving. They would be off duty at 9 a.m. that morning. The firefighters of the B-team had organized with station 12 and station 23 a meal at the fire station. The A-team had been invited but had to decline the offer as they had already been invited to Addison and Jake's, who had just moved into a large family home a few months ago.
On Wednesday morning Jo and Alex had arrived at 10 o'clock at the Seattle International Airport. Carina had gone to pick them up with Addison. They had then dropped Alex off at Andrea's house with whom he had planned to spend the day.
The girls had, at noon, gone to eat in a small Italian restaurant, Carina's favorite on Seattle and they had an appointment for the fittings at 2pm.
- "so how is work going?" Addison asked Jo
- "very good, I love it. I love helping these families and children. Sometimes I get too personally involved but at the same time I can't help it. I love what I do so much. How about you?"
- "oh, me, you know, still the same, I'm not an attending yet. But I have the best master trainer, she's literally the best in the country, well the best obstetrician in the United States. She's never lost a patient. That's impressive."
- "and Addison, who will be a starter next June, fingers crossed, will be our OB-Gyn" said Carina excitedly
-"What? What do you mean? Why?"
- "after the wedding, we don't want to wait any longer to make our family. We'll take a week for ourselves... And then we start the procedures."
- "oh my God, I'm so happy for you," Jo said as she bent down to hug her childhood friend.
- "so that April and Jacks' child will have a boy friend or girl friend not too far away in age" added the redhead
- "and how is your program going?"
-"I have regulars and other young people who come more randomly, but generally they come at least twice, I've never had someone who didn't come back. And then a lot of them are there because they've made friends in the group and it allows them to see each other. I've had a few speakers already, like Marsha, our HR. She has a pansexual daughter who is dating a trans man. She said some really nice things. I need to get Maya to come as well. But she often works on Tuesdays."
- "that's cool. And do the kids confide in each other well?"
-"At the first session, I had to give myself up to them, to put them in confidence, I talked about you, but since then, it is often my regulars who speak for me".
