The Week After

The weekend had ended well for the group.

Maya had done her training with her brother and then spent part of the afternoon with him to catch up. They didn't have as much time to see each other now that Mason was officially a soldier.

Carina had spent her Sunday studying. She wanted to be able to leave one day and work in the United States, probably in international trade, she was not decided. But her goal remained the same. To go to the country where her friends were born.

She had then spent the late afternoon watching a documentary about the life of firefighters in California. Carina was fascinated by them.

- "heyy, how was your Sunday? "

- "training, training, training and you? "

- "oh yeah, so you weren't kidding?! You're really into it. I studied and then we watched a documentary about firefighter "

- "you revised what we literally started a week ago." laughed the blonde

- "and then..."

- "and this firefighter thing... Is that a fantasy you have? " she asked, making eyes at her.

- "hmmm maybe the uniform makes me cringe..." she replied in the same tone, "I'm mostly impressed by these men and women who run towards danger when everyone else is running away from it."

- "a bit like our soldiers"

- "I have an opinion that is not necessarily in line with our way of life. I understand that one can want to protect one's homeland. But there are certain aspects that I don't like, the occupation for example."

- "I know what you mean. But I'd still like to be in the military later on."

-"You'll make a lovely soldier," Carina said to lighten the mood.

That's when Jack walked into the classroom, "hey Maya catch this."

He had sent Maya a package of marshmallows followed by his best smile and a wink. This little personal joke made both girls laugh.

The atmosphere had clearly been relaxed.

The rest of the day passed quietly. Carina was quite strict about chatting and even though she was eager to spend her time talking with Maya she didn't forget her main goal and saved the conversations for between classes, breaks and the evening.

-"we're going to the shelter, my brother wants to see this girl Samantha. Do you want to come? "

-"I want to see the girl who makes the heart of the most handsome guy on the base fall in love with her, for sure ! "

- "it's the girl who plays billiards" said Andrea whispering

-"I confess you have good taste", Maya whispered to him, slapping his hand.

-"you make me despair" Carina breathed

- "oooh it's okay don't be jealous" replied Andrea

-"You're still my favorite" Maya winked to make her blush. This worked brilliantly, even though Carina shook her head to avoid showing her weakness.

- "So what are you waiting for?" Travis asked.

- "I'm going I'm going.... "

Andrea got up and supported by the look of his friends went to the pool table.
He began to speak to the pretty Samantha. And he rubbed the back of his neck.

- "but he really, really fell for her"

-"How did you know?" asked Maya.

-"It's a twins thing they do all the time" answered Dean who had arrived after Andrea had left
