See you again

Spring break was just around the corner and Maya would be coming to Sicily any day now. She would leave after school and arrive on Saturday morning. She would leave the following Sunday.

Carina had taken a week off from work so she wouldn't have to leave her girlfriend, whom she hadn't seen in over two and a half months.

She had worked every weekend except Thanksgiving and the two weeks she had been at Maya's since school started.

So she had saved up to rent an Airbnb for the 8 and a half days her beau would be there.

The more time they spent together, the more they imagined their future life. There was nothing complicated about it. As soon as they were together it was as if everything in the universe was in order, as if the planets were in perfect alignment.
As if war and famine could stop. Their suffering, it disappeared completely.

They hadn't done much of anything in particular. They had just stayed in Catania. Going out as lovers and seeing their friends.

Three months later they had planned a road trip to the United States. They had arranged to meet in New York on June 15.

In a little over a month Maya will be leaving on a mission. For six months. Six months without seeing each other.

But for the moment that's not what they wanted to think about.
They would land an hour apart.  Maya would arrive there first at New York's JFK airport and head to Carina's terminal.

This one finally arrived. She jumped into her arms. Wrapping her legs around her waist. And made her a billion kisses everywhere on the face.

- "ti sono mancata tanto" says Maya [I missed you so much].

- "anch'io Bambina. Your Italian is getting better! "She said proudly of her companion.

They went first to the hotel. They had booked at the Carter Hotel at 250w 43rd St, parallel to 42nd St and perpendicular to Times Square.

They immediately went for a walk in Times Square where they went to eat at McDonald's with the view on the TKTS.
After the meal they went to the M&M's world and Hershey's store.

They had then gone to get the NewYork Passes they had ordered to do a maximum of visits without paying each time. Directly on their way out they had started with the Madame Tussauds museum in NewYork. Afterwards they went to Junior's for some of the best cheesecake in the world. They had a huge slice of cheesecake covered with chocolate mousse. They shared it because it was so gargantuan, but so delicious.

Afterwards, they went back to the hotel. Maya wanted Carina to be able to sleep a little like the day she had started the day before. She had fallen asleep quickly. But she made Maya swear to wake her up at 8:00 pm.

So they went out to hang out in the streets still crowded.

At 11 pm they were back at the hotel.
They were peacefully in each other's arms.

- "what a long time it was these 3 months..."

- "I don't know how I'm going to do it when you're on a six-month assignment."

-"Can we not think about it right away? "

- "Make me think of something else then..." Said she, raising her left eyebrow.

The next morning they woke up early, took the subway and bought a 7-day card.

Throughout the week they had made good use of their pass.
The statue of liberty, the museum of natural history where they were lost for three hours, the Top of the Rock of the Rockfeller center by day and the empire state building by night with both of them a breathtaking view on New York. The one trade center, the tour of the houses of series and films... They had eaten real New York hot dogs, ice cream in the frosty truck of wall street, they had been touched the balls of the bull of wall street to bring good luck, made the cab boat, the memorial of the world trade center or still walking in central Park... They had really enjoyed their stay in New York. Carina bought her and her brother Yankees caps and candy at Dylan Candy Bar when they went to Serendipity 3, the famous restaurant, pastry shop, coffee shop and Roosevelt Island cable car.
