-"DeLuca, what are you doing here? Normally it's the other way around, you come to see some of our patients," said Dr. Parker.
- "a pickup truck thought it was okay to run a red light"
- "outch! Let's take a look at that head and Dr. Kim is coming for your leg" he said as he approached her head. "Their is a lieutenant with you it's normal? Wasn't it you who blew that light?" he said quietly.
-"It's a long story. But yes, don't worry, I'm sure I'm not the one who burned the red light."
- "okay, I'm going to have to give you three stitches"
- "Dr. Kim, Carina here was in an accident and the underside of her dashboard hit her leg."
- "ok, that's a bit of a stretch, I'd like to do an x-ray. You can take off all your jewelry, phone, ..."
-"I'll save them for you," said Maya as she approached.
-"Lieutenant," said Nico, saluting Maya.
-"doctor" They had met several times in a queer club in Seattle.
Carina hesitated. She took her rings, necklace and phone out of her pocket and gave them to Maya.
Her gurney was taken to radiology.
Meanwhile, Maya, who had not yet looked at Carina's objects, lingered. She looked at the necklace first, it looked familiar but she couldn't see what. It was a silver necklace with a star and a heart intertwined.
Then the rings. She recognized the ring that she had given her for Christmas. Well ok, Carina always wore her ring... But it was only a ring among many other rings. It was simple, pass everywhere so it was not surprising that she still puts it.The second one she didn't know, yet it reminded her of something. She looked at it more closely and saw an inscription on the inside "per sempre". She looked at the ring again and pulled the chain around her neck out from under her shirt. It was a rather long chain that reached the middle of her breasts, so even with a tank top she could wear it. She compared the two rings. It was the same one, rose gold, the diamonds were identical but of a different color. And the inscription inside, the same writing, hers longer but the two words 'per sempre' was on both rings.
Maya was the pessimistic type, often rational but mostly pessimistic. She had told herself that Carina wore it because it must have been expensive. Not because she still had feelings. Why would she have feelings for the blonde, who had broken her heart.
When Carina reappeared in the distance, Maya put the objects back into a small bag.
- "Okay, we're going to have to put a cast on you," said Dr. Kim.
- "oh no! And my consultations".
-"I'm sorry but I have no other option."
-"Arrggh" she had just made that face, the one Maya liked so much. That face of hers alone.
- "what's today's date?" Casey asked
she thought, then looked at Maya before looking at Casey: "September 25."
-"Okay, I would still like to keep you under observation tonight. You may have a concussion and since you live alone, I don't want to risk anything. Unless you go to your brother's house?"
- "I'm going to stay with her."
This sentence from Maya surprised Casey, Carina and Maya herself. She had to work. But she couldn't help herself.
- "no I, I don't want to disturb you"
- "I don't mind."
- "Carina, if it's good for you, we'll cast you and turn you over to Lieutenant Bishop here."
