The Military School (En)

Carina.

It had been two years since Carina wrote her last letter. It was July 6 and she would never forget that date. She had graduated a few days ago from her university.

Two months ago her brother had gotten married. She had been his best-woman and she had been happy for him. Everyone was there, Jackson, Jo, Arizona, even Amelia. Everyone was there except her.
She knew Maya wouldn't come, but she hoped. There would always be a hint of hope.

And yet she had come to the wedding with a "+1", her girlfriend. Her ex-girlfriend now. She didn't appear on many photos, so much the better. And then the band had seen that the two there, they did not make sparks. Not like with...

/Flashback/

[Dialogue in Italian]

- "Hi my name is Gabriella, I'm your new roommate."

- "Hi, I'm Carina. Make yourself at home".

-"How come in second year you don't already have a roommate? You killed her," she laughed.

- "no she was here for a year, an exchange student program, I was supposed to go to there in turn but I finally decided to stay here"

- "good for me"

- "and you what is your story?"

-"I jumped at the chance of an empty room on campus to leave my parents. They live 30 minutes away. But I wanted my independence."

Nothing had happened between Carina and Gabriella for a long time. In fact they had started something only a few months before the marriage of her brother. And it had ended two weeks after the wedding.

After making love together, Gabriella on top of Carina had looked into her eyes and said : "I love you".

Carina had been seized by a panic attack.  How, how could Gabriella dare say that to her. She had seen Carina suffer at the beginning of their friendship. She had told her all about Maya, she had comforted her, how dare she say I love you and especially how dare she reproduce Maya's I love you.

She had freed herself from Gaby's embrace and dashed down the hallway of their dormitory after putting on her robe. She had run into the showers. She turned on the water and sat on the floor. She had cried. Tears drowned her cheeks along with the water.

How could she have said these words. Carina had been clear about 'their relationship', she didn't want anything serious and especially nothing sentimental. She had felt betrayed.

After a night in the shower she had finally gone back to their shared room and done the most mature thing she could do. She had dotted the I's with Gabriella and asked her to remain friends, without benefits, if she could stand it.

Carina was with Jo and Lexie on the beach.

- "Are you really going to leave?" Jo asked.

-I can't stay here anymore, everything reminds me of Maya. It's been two years. I can't go on like this. I've tried, I've tried to move on. I just can't do it. I have to go somewhere that won't remind me of her. Not like these rocks, or this volcano, or any of the places we've been."

- "but will you come back to us?"

- "of course you are my family and my parents are here. But Andrea is there. And I've lived without him for too long. And then you can come! It's not on another planet".

- "You'll soon find your place there, Andrea and Sam, they'll be there for you"

- "yes, and then there's Adisson and Jake"
