A week after the events in Rainer Beach Valley, Maya was still in command, knowing that there was very little time left for her to prove herself as a temporary captain. However, she had the support of her entire barracks, whether it was the A or B team.

The interventions were one after the other, but they were never the same. Car accidents, burning buildings, domestic accidents, all situations had presented themselves to her during her 'tenure' and she had handled them all brilliantly. She had always made the decisions but was not ashamed to ask her lieutenants or firefighters for their opinion from time to time. For her, that was teamwork.

When she was sometimes in her office she couldn't help but think of her future wife and how much she would like this office to officially become hers, so that their future would be easier without the long shifts.

/Flashback/

Two days after Pruitt's heart attack, Maya and Carina had gone on a tour of the White House with the red door that the firefighter had reserved to purchase.

The real estate agent was someone Maya had once saved, during a car accident. He had given her his card with the promise that if one day he could return the favor, he would not hesitate. Until she saw Carina again, she had never thought of using that card. And yet she couldn't explain the fact that she had always kept it.

He himself had been surprised when Maya had contacted him some weeks ago. He had shown her several houses, but when she arrived at this house, she didn't need to go inside to know that it was the right one.

Today she was going to have confirmation, whether or not she had done the right thing by stopping her search. She and Carina had an appointment with the real estate agent at 6 p.m.

-" Maya, it's nice to see you again. And I take it you're Carina? Nice to meet you, I'm Tim."

- "also delighted"

-" So Maya, ready to show your future wife this wonder?"

- "more than ready, I have a good feeling"

-" So the owners aren't here, but they know your situation, and don't have a problem with it. I'm sorry, I must have said you were a female couple. Sometimes some people don't want to sell to non-straight couples or sometimes to couples of color."

- "we wouldn't have wanted the homophobic house..." said Carina "so much the better.

-"okay" he said as he plunged the key into the lock and opened the door "go ahead and enter".

The house was beautiful, well decorated, very cozy. Cream and wood colors, very natural. All the rooms were perfectly coordinated with each other. In the staircases were placed family photos in a visibly chronological order. In identical frames, off-white. You could feel that the people who lived here were happy. It was very warm.

- "this house looks perfect, why are they selling?" asked Carina

-" The wife, Barbara, just transferred to California, they didn't want to leave their home, but this is a really great professional opportunity so her husband pushed her to make the right decision. She didn't want to leave that home, but, he told her that their home was where they were together and not rooms and walls, as nice as they were."

-"He's right," said Maya, "my home is her," she added, looking at Carina. "Not the place where I live.

They had visited the entire house. There was a bedroom downstairs, an office as well in addition to the living rooms and the laundry room. And three bedrooms upstairs, as well as a fairly large landing.

-"The house is only available in 5 to 6 months, the premises where the new branch of Barbara's company is to open are still under construction. You are the only people who have visited. If you want to make an offer and it is accepted, this house will be yours. I'll let you discuss it among yourselves and Maya will you contact me again?"
