The end of the vacations had been rather quiet. Carina had continued to work. She had gotten her driver's license, which she had started after Maya left, and had taken the opportunity to visit her grandparents, since she hadn't been going there all summer for the past two years. She had also decided to get a head start and had started studying for the new elective she had taken in her senior year, Psychology. Schools on military bases often offered options for working in the military professions and this was one of the subjects offered.

That was where she met her. Amelia, she was new to the base. She had arrived a week before school started. She had a younger brother, Derek, who was in second grade. He was the same age as Carina was when she met Maya.

They only had this one class in common, but had become close quickly. It was refreshing to have someone who didn't constantly remind her of Maya, someone with whom they had no common memories.

Of course she had told Amelia about Maya and vice versa.
At first Maya was happy that Carina had a new friend.
She ended up getting jealous. Carina talked about her new friend a lot, she spent a lot of time with her. She didn't forget about Maya though, how could she?

Amelia was a pretty girl, however she had nothing in common with Maya except her blue eyes, maybe, but they were nothing like her favorite eyes in the world. She was a brunette, a little shorter than Maya, and she wanted to be a neurosurgeon.

Maya and Carina had never been separated for so long. Maya had left on July 18th just after the twins' eighteenth birthday on the 17th. The first day of school for her was Wednesday, July 19. They would not see each other until after the Christmas vacations.

It had been four months since they had last seen each other and they still had a month to go.
It was agreed that Carina would go during her two weeks of vacation, not like the previous year when she had only been there her second week.

The more time passed, the more Maya became jealous of Amelia, and she kept asking if there was anything going on between them. She knew that Carina was a very tactile person, that she needed human warmth and that being away from Maya was very painful for her. She trusted Carina but she couldn't help it. A moment of distraction could happen so quickly.
Carina tried to reassure her girlfriend as much as possible. She had no feelings for Amelia and the feeling was mutual. They were simply friends.

It was a Wednesday night when Carina and Amelia were at Amelia's house watching a movie. They often did that. Tonight Amelia had suggested watching 'the half of it'. Carina wasn't the type to watch romantic comedies without Maya because it reminded her that her lover lived tens of thousands of miles away from her. But tonight she had accepted.

At the end of the film when Ellie comes to kiss Aster, Amelia took Carina's hand to squeeze it.

- "You see I love these moments! "

- "about?" She asked as she turned to Amelia
- "when the main characters realize that there is more between them" she said this as she closed the gap between her and Carina before placing her lips on hers. Carina was surprised at first but pulled back with a sharp movement.

- "You... What are you doing here? "

-"Carina there is something between us? Did you feel it too? "

- "there is absolutely nothing going on between us, you're straight and I have, I love Maya, you know my girlfriend I've been telling you about for three months?"

- "yes I'm straight but you're different"

- "that's no reason to kiss me, at what point did you feel that I was receptive?"

She was more shocked than annoyed, at what point could she have sent signals that she was interested. What would Maya say? So Maya was right, Amelia was interested in her.
