Dr. Rhodes and Dr. Charles share a look that can only be described as "What the fuck just happened"

The whole ED let out a gasp at Sharron's words.
"During this altercation Dr. Bekker throat was slashed, thanks to the quick actions of passerby's and Chicago Med's own Dr. Rhodes, we were able to save Dr. Bekker" Goodwin says confidently gesturing to Connor.
Half the ED turns to spot Connor standing against the back wall looking completely dumbfounded.
"We would ask for discretion and respect for the family and all those involved at this time"
Sharron finished her speech and the crowd dispirited, with everyone giving pitifully and side eyed glances his way.
"Hey man, I'm so sorry I had no idea" Will came over and gave him a bear hug, patting him on the back.
"No, it's fine. You didn't know" Connor said awkwardly, still processing the situation.
"How's she doing?"
"Yeah she's still in surgery, we should know more soon"
"We'll we've all seen her, she's made of strong stuff, she'll pull through" he patted him on the shoulder.
"Yeah your right man, hey do you want to get a drink a Mollys this weekend" Connor suggested realising he handy spent much time away from the hospital.
"Yeah, you need to relax a bit" Will told him before getting pulled into a trauma bay.

Connor went up to post op to wait outside for any word on Ava. On the way up Connor passed the interfaith prayer room. He hadn't been to church since his mother had passed, nearly twenty years ago, but something compelled him to enter. The room was small with a few pews and an open space for prayer mats. The walls were bare of religious symbols so everyone could use it. Connor sat in a pew and got on his knees, bring his hands together before him.
"Dear God, anyone, whoever is listing. Please protect my Ave, she's been through so much, give her strength to pull through this.
"Our farther, who art in heaven, hallo be thy name. By kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven...."
"Hail Mary full of grace, the lord be with thee....."

Connor woke up with a crick in his neck from having it looking down for so long. Rubbing his eyes he looked down to his watch to see that hours had passed since Connor had entered the room. He left quickly, finally making his way to post op.
"Family of Dr. Bekker?" A nurse asked, with a look that made Connor think she'd been looking for him for a while.
"Yeah Ava, is she okey?"
"Dr. Bekker did well in surgery, Dr. Abrams was able to remove the clot and repair any damage done. She may suffer some short term memory loss and residual headaches but were optimistic for her recovery" she told him, walking him to Ava's ICU room.
"Thank you" Connor said, parting ways with the nurse.
Ava lay there before him once again, in dim hospital lighting, the blue making her seem paler the she was. Someone had thoughtfully given Ava a heart shaped pillow, the kind given to those who have recently undergone heart surgery. Their was a small card on her bedside locker.

Get well soon Dr. Bekker
-Your friends from the ED

Connor could recognise the hand writing to be that of Natalie Manning, presuming the pillow was Will's idea and Nat's card accompanied it.
Connor takes a seat next to Ava's bed, taking her hand once more and bring it to his lips.
"You did it Ave" he whispers, kissing her hand once more before returning it to her bed.
"Thank you" Connor thought towards the ceiling.

"She's doing well I hear" Sharron voice startles Connor. She pulls up a second chair to Ava's bedside and takes the hand opposite to Connor, saying a quick prayer to herself.
Sharron leans back and studies Connor and they way he looks at Ava.
"I gather that you and Dr. Bekker were more than friends at one point"
Connor looks away from Ava and finds his eyes on the ground; he's been caught.
"Yeah, yeah we were" he admits, easing his head again.
"We we're happy as well, really, really happy together. Sometimes is wish I could go back to those days, three months ago, before all of this happened. And it would just be us again, at Molly's or watching a movie on my sofa" he sighs.
"She doesn't deserve any of this" he says horsely, reaching out to stroke Ava's cheek.
