Ava woke at five thirty in the morning, wanting to get an early start to the day. She showered and did her make up in the bathroom, not wanting to wake Connor. She quietly went into their bedroom, picking out her scrubs for the day.

She heard Connor groan and roll over spotting her in the dark.
"Come back to bed" he reached out an arm.
"We have work, your alarms about to go off" she warned him.
Connor looked at his bedside clock.
5.58am
He let out another groan and hit the off button.

"Come on" she said, gathering her things. She flicked on the light switch as she left the room.
Connor groaned into his pillow, calling after her
"I hate you Dr. Bekker!"
Connor heard Ava's laughs from the hall and got up. He showered, changing into his black scrubs. He ran his hand down his face, going out into the kitchen to Ava who had already made them breakfast.
"I'm sorry coffee" she slid it in front of him, kissing his forehead. Connor caught her hand, kissing the back of it delicately before letting her go.

Connor drove them to the hospital, carrying Ava's bag on his shoulder for her. They went into the locker room and put their stuff away.
"You ready?" He asked, turning to Ava who hadn't even open her locker.
"It won't open" she tugged at it.
"Here" he stepped in front of her, opening her locker with ease.
"Thank you" Ava put her bag inside.
"Come on, we should get you back in there" he said. Excited to have his buddy back.

"Ah. Dr. Bekker, Dr. Rhodes. Just the doctors I was looking for" Dr. Lathem met them as they left the doctors lounge.
"Dr. Lathem" they greeted him.
"Ava you will begin preforming surgries again from next week, but you'll start with Dr. Rhodes supervisions. Then we'll ease you back into it"
"Of course Dr. Latham, I'm happy to be back" she smiled.
"It's good to have you back, Ava" he smiled.
"Dr, Rhodes" he nodded a goodbye to him.

Ava watched him go, turning back to Connor with a smile.
"Looks like you're stuck with me, Rhodes" she winced and nodded her head.
"Wouldn't have it any other way"
They did their rounds, Ava treated a few minor patients by herself.
"Hey Connor how do I submit a report?" Ava asked quietly.
"Oh, here" he tapped the screen in a sequence , showing her how to send off the report.
"Right, I remember now"
"You're doing great" he touched her arm as he passed her.

Late into their shift their was a minor accident. A two car collision with ten victims ranging from minor scratches to multiple breaks in bones. Connor and Ava worked together on the broken bones, helping to rest them and ease the patients pains, keeping parents informed. They worked through all the serious patients, Ava moving like second nature.

"Dr. Bekker, T5"
Ava pulled on her gloves and moved to the room.
"I can take this one, Aves" Connor stopped her, touching her arm
"Are you sure you don't need help?"
"No, I'll be fine. Go get some lunch" he urged her, not wanting her to miss her break.

Ava left the ED for the canteen, sitting in her and Connors usual spot with a bowl of hot soup. She was reading a few articles on her phone and looking out to the skyline when she saw April and Natalie approaching suspiciously.
"What are you?"
"I got her" April put her hands over Ava's eyes.
"Maggie" she laughed, placing her hands over April's.
"Okey open" Nat said and April pulled her hands back.
In front of Ava was a cupcake with the words "WeLComE HoME" placed across it in thing frosting. Ava's heart ached.
"I have to get back to the ED, you two enjoy. Good to have you back hun" April gave her a said hug before running off.
Ava's mouth hung open before finding her words.
"Thank you" she chuckled, holding back tears.

"I was going to light the candle but, no fires in the hospital" she put on Maggie's voice.
"She and April helped"
"Thank you so much, it means a lot" Ava held out her hand and Natalie took it.
"I missed you, I really did" she chuckled.
"Don't tell him I said this but Will's not nearly as funny as you are"
Ava laughed and took the knife from her tray, cutting the cake down the middle.
"Here" she offered Natalie the other half.
"Welcome back to Gaffney" she toasted.
"Glad to be back"

Natalie and Ava has their lunch break together, gossiping till they had to go back. They went their separate ways after the lift. Natalie ran off to one of her treatment bays and Ava went to collect her iPad from the nurses station, reading over her case notes.
She looked up into the doctors lounge. Spotting a familiar face.
Connor watched her slip into the doctors lounge with him.
"You knew" she said immediately, closing the door behind him.
"Did you like it? Natalie gave me the heads up to make sure you were on break at the right time"
"I liked it" she found herself in his arms and sniffled a bit.
"Doctor Bekker getting emotional" he teased, holding her closer.
"Never" she pulled back, smiling and shaking her head.
Connor wiped her cheek with his thumb.
"Our shifts are over at the same time, how about we go for drinks?"
"A little private celebration"
Ava smiles, "I would love to but I have a load of paperwork to do. I'm going to stay late"
"Okey" he nodded, "another time"
"I'll see you at home" she touched his arm.
"I'll get dinner ready for when you're back" he said, moving to leave.
"No you cooked last time let me" Ava stopped him.
"Come home with me?"
"I can't" she sighed.
"You can't be everywhere at once Aves" he chuckled, touching her arm like she had.
"I'll see you at home"
