CHAPTER FOURTYFOUR

When Aemond had died in the accident with Vhagar, she had for a long time done nothing but hate Aegon.

She was not prepared for the sudden, dramatic, and forced change that had happened to her. She went from being a princess, wife, and mother expecting their child. To a widow, childless and to the fucking queen of the seven kingdoms.

Even though she had refused the crown at first, she was reminded that she was their only heir as both her uncle; who by the way had chased after that crown for his entire life, refused. As well as when Princess Rhaenys had told her she had no business being queen at her age. So the choice was to either put the crown back onto the kings head, or let the healthy Princess take over.

When they had placed that crown on top of her head she had not smiled, she had not felt good. She just felt empty.

She struggled for a long time with terrible night terros involving Aemond, and sometimes they even had Heleana in them as well. It got so bad that she started waking up feeling like she was still carrying around her son in her belly, and the Maesters was unable to help her sleep.

She had tried her best to drown herself in work, because if there was something there was enough of it was work. But, the lords in the council had very quickly seen their Queens passion for knowledge and her passion to rule with kindness. They had even all agreed that when this Targaryen were born, and the God's flipped the coin, it had landed on 'great' and not mad like her predecessor.

The lords of the council also respected her priorities when it came to her family.

When she had so kindly pardoned her uncle in return of him bending the knee, she was seen as a humble and forgiving queen. And they were all loyal. So loyal in fact that on the days she did not show up for her meetings, they still did not decide anything drastic without asking her.

The days that she was not attending were usually the days the Prince had disappeared, and she would be gone to make sure that he lived. For even though she had all the reasons in the world to hate him, she still cared for him. And she still gave him chances. There were so many chances.

She had a great love for children, and was almost everyday seen with the smaller people who ran around in the keep, sometimes giving them sweets, sometimes just talking to them in Valeriyan to teach them a word or two.

When she had been queen for a whole month, the Lords did however start to push the fact that she needed to find a husband as she needed an heir, and she would be seen as stronger if she was joined by a man on her side. But Vis had trouble with getting over her late husband, and even though it had been months since his passing, she was still grieving.

It was very late, and she had been staying by Aegons' side almost all day. There were a few moments when she felt that it was safe enough for him to be left alone, so she attended to dress in more comfortable clothing as the day was coming to an end.

Aegon had indeed eaten almost all of his soup that she had offered him earlier, and he had managed to keep it down.

She had tried to bring him into conversation so she could have him at least communicate with her, but as usual, he refused to say more than absolutely necessary.

She was rushing again, this time up the stairs, her knight still very much barely hanging after her like he always did.

"Criston, can you please make sure to send in your father before he returns to his chambers for the night?" The Ser knew she barely used only his first name when she talked to him. That was, of course, unless her mind was elsewhere.
