Chapter 31: New Destruction

Tanjiro received a call from his phone.

He looked down into his pocket and took out his phone. He then looked at the caller's identity and he was a bit surprised to see that Minato was calling him. 

Before picking up the call, he realized that his earpiece was still in his ear and he was kind of shocked that nobody noticed it until now. He quickly put his earpiece in a pocket and turned to his friends.

"Guys I have to take this call, I'll be back in a moment." Tanjiro said, "O-Ok, you can go." Kanao replied back who at the time was the only one not engaged in anything after Nezuko left to get some drinks. "Tell the others I'll be gone for a bit ok?" Tanjiro asked, "Sure." Kanao stated back. "Aight' thanks Kanao! I owe you one!" Tanjiro said as he waved with a large smile plastered on his face.

"B-bye!" Kanao said while waving back, "Tanjiro's been receiving a lot of calls lately..." Kanao thought while she stared at the spot Tanjiro was standing in a few minutes ago. "I wonder what's happening with him...?" She wondered.

But before she started jumping to conclusions, Kanao caught herself and decided to stop thinking about it. "Tanjiro may have other friends that he talks to." She thought, "Yeah, I guess that could be it." She concluded in her brain.

"Hey, Kanao, where did Tanjiro go?" Nezuko said while passing a box of juice to Kanao.

"He said he had a call to attend to, probably some friends, or something," Kanao replied as she caught the juice box.

"Oh..." Nezuko said while slurping her drink.

"What do you need man? I'm trying to enjoy my life here?!" Tanjiro exclaimed while opening the entrance doors of the school as he exited the school building and into the front yard.

"I have a life to man, but we still have to do this." Minato replied back, "As if you have a life! The only thing you do is just sit in front of a big screen and watch us do our missions!" Tanjiro stated, "Hey! That's not my only job!" Minato whined.

"Ok ok fine, but let's just get to the point, what did you call me for?" Tanjiro asked while leaping over the school gates since they were closed at the time and started to head out of the school grounds and into the forest behind the school.

"Don't you remember?! We're getting our newly issued firearms today!" Minato said, "No-oh yeah, that thing..." Tanjiro meagerly answered.

"Why are you not excited? We're getting new weapons!" Minato happily screamed, "I guess that's fine, but can't you just send it to my home and I can test it there?" Tanjiro asked, "Nope, apparently they said that you will be the first one to test it to see if it functions correctly and doesn't blow up like last time, and they need the results ASAP so we can see if we can issue the gun to our agents or not." Minato said, "Ugh, fine..." Tanjiro replied.

"Go ahead and send a drone over to my position, I'm sure nobody is around to see me," Tanjiro stated while looking back into the forest he just walked into.

"Already done," Minato said.

Tanjiro looked up to see a quick flash of blue light appear above him as a drone carrying a sealed box with a unique design on it hovered over him and lowered the box into Tanjiro's hand.

The drone kept hovering mid-air as Tanjiro felt the box which was smooth, sleek, and high in quality. He gave the box a few quick knocks to hear the sound it made.

It was a wooden box so it made a hollow wood sound. "As expected..." Tanjiro thought as he turned the box around to face him.

He saw that there was a simple bolt lock keeping it sealed tight, "That's a bit... Basic..." Tanjiro thought while unlocking the box and opening the lid as he saw a gun that was completely black in color with the exception of the bolt and chamber being silver in color.

The gun's body had two air vents on each side which allowed for air circulation inside the weapon to cool it down in case it overheated. The gun also had massive rails protruding from the sides, which couldn't load any attachments on it and instead served another purpose. The rail to load attachments was on the bottom Tanjiro slides his finger along it while feeling its rough pattern.

Tanjiro took the gun out of the box which sat on a velvet cushion. 

He noticed that the back of the gun had a large slant and he took a closer look at it and saw that it was a small screen that was built inside the gun. The gun was a bit heavier than his silenced pistol, but it was normal for the man.

He grabbed the gun by the grip and felt its rough, but smooth bumpy texture. He started to tighten his grip as his gun then started to come to life and the rails started to shine neon blue on the inside. 

"Welcome, Agent Red Sun." The weapon stated, "AI integrated? And fingerprint activated? Nice." Tanjiro thought.

Tanjiro took another look at the screen to see the multiple bullet and fire options that it displayed by using the scroll wheel that was located on the side of the miniature screen. "Regular .45 ACP, 500 Magnum? Cool. Freeze rounds, Taser rounds, Magnetic rounds, Plasma Shots, Hollow-point (That's a war crime), High Explosive rounds, and... Heat Shots?" Tanjiro wondered while he looked at his options, "Minato, what's a heat shot?" Tanjiro said into his phone which he placed in his pocket.

"I don't know much about it, but I heard that heat shots borrow energy from the sun by using the integrated solar panels that it has and storing the energy in an internal battery until that was built into the gun," Minato replied. Tanjiro then selected the "Heat Shot" option and saw "Battery percentage" and "Power" on the screen. 

The weapon showed that it was full in battery meaning that it was charged earlier and that power was at zero percent.

Tanjiro held the gun in front of him and prepared to fire and looked back in the direction of his school to see if the sound could be heard from the distance between him and the school.

He looked back and held the trigger which showed that the power of the shot was increasing.

He held the trigger until the power was at 100% and fired and let go.

A red bolt made of pure sunlight energy was then shot out of the gun and managed to penetrate several trees as it made small holes through each and every one of them. Barely any sound was produced during the entire thing which surprised Tanjiro a bit more

Tanjiro looked at the holes and then back at his gun, "Internal suppressor and a round that looks like it could penetrate several plates of armor? I'm becoming a fan of this now." Tanjiro thought while looking at the gun with satisfaction.

"Now time for the plasma shot." Tanjiro thought while switching to the "Plasma Shot" setting.

The screen was the same for the plasma shot as it was for the heat shot, but there was no UI for the power of the shot.

Tanjiro held the gun in front of him and held the trigger as the entire gun start to light up blue and a ball of heated air was starting to take shape at the front.

Tanjiro then let go of the trigger as the ray of pure plasma shot out and caused several trees to explode in front of Tanjiro.

The sound produced was a bit louder than the heat shot, but it still couldn't be heard from the school. 

"Destructive." Tanjiro thought while trying to get the mag out as he pull the slide of the gun back and pressed the mag release which dropped a regular mag that was used for a standard handgun.

He looked inside the mag to see regular .45 ACP in the mag and was kind of confused about how 500 Magnum was an option on there if the entire mag only had standard rounds.

He loaded the gun back up and switched to 500 Magnum to see if it would fire.

He fired the gun once and a loud bang was heard as a bullet zipped into a tree and made a pretty deep hole in it.

Tanjiro went to check the hole and grazed his finger over the sharp and chipped edges of the entrance hole. "Yep, that's the power of a 500 Mag alright." Tanjiro said to himself as he went back, "Probably has the charges or substances in the bullets in order to do something like that, which would explain the other options." Tanjiro thought to himself.

"So, how'd you like it?" Minato asked, "It's pretty nice and smooth on the hand. Feels nice to grip, powerful rounds that can penetrate armor and create massive holes in targets, and so far, no jams." Tanjiro said as he pulled the slide back to see a bullet already chambered in.

He let the slide go which created a "click" sound and waited for Minato to reply. 

"Anything else?" Minato asked, "Yeah a little bit more. The regular rounds aren't silenced it seems..." Tanjiro replied, "I thought they were... Hold on, did you check all of the settings? R&D did tell me that they have built-in a suppressor for all rounds." Minato said while sounding confused, "They did? Hold on..." Tanjiro spoke as he scroll through the main menu of the weapon.

He soon found the "Silenced" option which had a little box next to it. Tanjiro clicked a small button that was in the middle of the scroll wheel.

He held the gun and fired it again this time on the default round as the classic "Tfff" sound exited the gun and the casing launched out of the slide.

"There we go," Tanjiro said while looking very satisfied and impressed with the weapon. This was special since Tanjiro was rarely impressed or satisfied with anything, which is why the agency gave Tanjiro the gun before any other agent. He was like their critic since he always had high expectations.

"Gotta admit, I'm impressed." Tanjiro said, "Great, you can test the further features of the gun later, I'll give the report back to R&D so they can issue it to the other agents." Minato stated, "So, that's it?" Tanjiro asked, "Yep!" Minato answered. "Huh, ok. Well, bye!" Tanjiro said as he disconnected the call and started to head back to the school.

The drone above flew away in a flash of blue as Tanjiro put the gun in his coat pocket and started to walk out of the forest and back to the school. 

"I haven't been this impressed with any of the agency's tech ever since they created the heat blade..." Tanjiro thought with his hands behind his head while walking back to the school.

He reached the school fence located near the back of the school as he leaped over it and landed on the other side with grace.  

Tanjiro then took out a picture from another pocket (Man has infinite pockets) and he looked at it while pulling a soft smile.

"Can't wait to see you guys again..." Tanjiro thought while looking at the picture which had six people all looking at the camera while covered in blood.

The picture was taken in a dark forest so it couldn't be clearly seen, but the expressions of all six men were full of sadistic intentions as each one of them had a creepy smile on their face.

There were several blood spots on the trees surrounding them with small fires barely lighting up the place

Tanjiro was in the middle of the group with his arms behind his back while being surrounded by other people, one had his hands in his pockets, and one had his blade ignited a neon green color as it lit up his face just a little bit while he hovered a finger under the blade. Another was sitting in a squat while standing over a body that looked like it had been mutated due to black spikes and dark and coarse skin littering the dead body.

Another one had his hands crossed, another putting his arm on his shoulder and leaning against him, while the final man was standing sideways and wiping blood off his face while looking at the camera.

"Good times..." Tanjiro thought while putting the picture away and looking forward, "The dance is starting, just in time." Tanjiro thinks while he ran to the front of the school and entered through the doors.

He ran through the halls and opened the gym doors when he arrived at the entrance of the gymnasium.

As he opened the doors, he was met with many students at the center of the court already dancing with their dates or in groups. 

There he saw his friends already dancing to the music.

It seemed like they already planned their dates without letting Tanjiro know since Zenitsu (Who was let go earlier after agreeing to do 30 laps every day around the school next week) was dancing with Nezuko and Inosuke was dancing with Aoi (Who had an embarrassed and pissed look on her face since Inosuke picked her up earlier in order to get her to dance). Tanjiro also saw Emiko, Akira, and Isamu dancing together. 

Emiko and Akira were the only ones to actually dance with Isamu just simply bobbing his head up and down as if he was listening to the music.

He noticed Genya and Kanao sitting on the side table while looking at their friends dancing to the music. 

Genya was tapping his foot to the beat of the song while Kanao just sat there with a drink in her hand with her oversized sleeves covering her hands. 

"Why aren't you guys dancing?" Tanjiro asked, "Oh, I just don't feel like it right now, I don't want to embarrass myself..." Genya stated while scratching his head. "I can't dance..." Kanao stated with a frown.

Tanjiro leaned over and raised an eyebrow, "Really?" Tanjiro said. Kanao only gave him a short nod. 

Tanjiro gave Kanao a soft smile as she suddenly took her hands and spun her out onto the dance floor. 

Genya took a spit-take as Kanao was very stunned and shocked at what Tanjiro just did. 

The drink that Kanao was holding spilled on the ground, but nobody paid attention to it since they were mostly very shocked by the action Tanjiro performed.

"No such thing as not being able to dance Kanao!" Tanjiro said with a completely innocent tone and a bright smile.

He approached Kanao as he moved his legs to the rhythm. For every beat that played, Tanjiro's leg would automatically shoot out in a graceful and beautiful manner depending on how "powerful" each beat was.

He soon put his hands in his pockets and spun around as his coat flailed in the air which only made him look more handsome for Kanao.

As he finished the spin, he reached his hand out to Kanao who was blushing due to embarrassment and shock. "Come on Kanao! Take my hand! I'll teach you how to dance!" Tanjiro said with a bright smile.

Kanao could tell that Tanjiro had no hidden and sinister intention at all and that he was a pure piece of bread. 

She hesitated due to how embarrassed she was at the time, but she took his hand eventually.

Tanjiro then tightened his grip around her hand and spun her around again. 

"Dancing is easy Kanao! Just try to move your body along with the rhythm and soon enough, you will get the hang of it!" Tanjiro said, "Here, I'll show you an example!" Tanjiro added as he started to move his body from left to right while snapping his fingers and crossing his legs and opening them again and again.

"Move my body to the rhythm..." Kanao thought as she looked at Tanjiro after calming down, "His movements are so smooth and graceful, there is no way I can ever match up with him!" Kanao thought as she frowned a bit.

"Don't be so down Kanao! If you practice enough, maybe one day you can match me!" Tanjiro said. 

Kanao was very surprised at the comment Tanjiro made, "H-how did he know?!" Kanao thought, "How did you know..." Kanao said in reality. "Simple, I can read people very easily because of my nose, and I can make conclusions pretty fast. You were giving off a sense of doubt and inferiority, so I just concluded that you were comparing yourself to me!" Tanjiro said with the same smile and his hopeful and innocent tone.

"Now just sway yourself left and right and your body should take it from there!" Tanjiro said. Kanao only nodded with no comment as she started to relax and started to lean her body left and right.

"Remember don't think, just let your body take control!" Tanjiro said, "Don't think just do..." Kanao thought to herself as she closed her eyes and let the rhythm, the beats, and the lyrics of the song sink into her brain as her mind went completely blank.

From the outside, Tanjiro saw Kanao start to move her hands and legs in coordination with each other as she started to move around the dance floor.

Tanjiro smiled, "There we go! Now you are getting the hang of it!" Tanjiro happily exclaimed as he started to move along with Kanao. 

The two began to move across the little space they had available to them due to the number of students there, but it didn't bother them since they were both enjoying it. 

Kanao then opened her eyes and realized that her body was moving along with Tanjiro's, "I'm-I'm dancing!" She thought as Tanjiro backed away a bit and allowed her to freely dance without him acting as a buffer.

"There you go! You're doing it!" Tanjiro happily said as Kanao was looking ecstatic and joyful, "I'm really dancing! This is so much fun!" Kanao thought as she started to increase the speed of her movements.

"Don't get too carried away Kanao, or you might slip." Tanjiro said while looking a bit worried, "Huh-" Kanao said, but was soon caught off guard when she tripped herself. 

"I got you!" Tanjiro said before quickly reacting and managing to save Kanao from her fall.

He held her with one wrapped around her shoulders and another arm pressing against her stomach to keep it from hitting the ground. 

"E-Eh!" Kanao said with a flustered and embarrassed tone to her sentence as she soon started blushing. "You almost fell, don't get too carried away next time. I can't save you all the time." Tanjiro joked, "Ri-right..." Kanao replied.

"It looks like I don't have the hang of this yet..." Kanao said, "Can you please teach me more!" Kanao exclaimed as she put her hands in front of her with her oversized sleeves flopping over her hands.

She looked very embarrassed with a very noticeable blush on her face as she had her eyes closed and her cheeks puffed out with the same red tint she had all over her face.

Tanjiro looked at this and paused for a good minute or two as he stared at her in pure silence with his eyes wide open and a slight pink tint on his face.

"Tanjiro?" Kanao asked as she approached Tanjiro with confusion. "Ah-ah! Yes, I can teach you!" Tanjiro said as he snapped out of his trance to which Kanao was caught by surprise. "Oh-oh! Ok!" Kanao stated as the two started to dance again.

Meanwhile, the two Butterfly Sisters were looking at the two, with Kanae looking at the two with a happy and cheerful face and Shinobu being the overprotective sister she is, had several tick marks across her face along with a dark aura. 

But yet, she still kept her smile.

"Tanjiro-kun better not touch my sister!" Shinobu thought, "Ara ara Shinobu, you should be happy for Tanjiro for teaching our little sister something new!" Kanae said while patting her sister on her head, "I know I should, but if he touches her..." Shinobu said with a menacing tone.

"I am confident Tanjiro would not do that, Calm down little sis!" Kanae said as the two were soon interrupted by Rengoku.

"It's time!" He screamed. The two sisters turned around and started to walk to the back where all the teachers were, Shinobu took one last glance at her sisters dancing with their "dates" as she looked back again and kept walking.

After the "dance" part of the event finally concluded, the students went back to talking and eating the assortment of foods that were at the snack table.

"This dance has been fun man, I can't wait for the mid-quarter break!" Genya exclaimed while leaning against a table.

"Yep!" Tanjiro said while eating a biscuit, "Yo, by the way, Tanjiro, nice moves out there!" Genya complimented, "Thanks, man!" Tanjiro replied happily. "You and Kanao looked like a power duo out there!" Nezuko said, "Thanks, Nezuko." Tanjiro said as he patted her "sister's" head. Kanao was a light shade of pink still thinking about what happened during the dance.

"But not as good as me and pigtails!" Inosuke exclaimed while Aoi looked very confused and flustered as to why Inosuke brought her up so suddenly. 

Meanwhile, Zenitsu was teeming with jealousy for both Tanjiro and Inosuke due to them dancing with the girls.

Isamu noticed Zenitsu and stepped in before he could break into an outrage again.

"Zenitsu." Isamu coldly said as he sent a glare to Zenitsu which caused Zenitsu to fumble back in fear.

"What are you guys going to do in the break by the way?" Aoi asked, "I'm just gonna stay home, I got nothing to do anyways..." Genya said as he huffed. "Same..." Aoi replied.

"I don't have any plans so I'm free the entire break," Nezuko stated. "So I'm guessing that all of you guys don't have anything planned yet?" Tanjiro asked.

The entire group nodded including Emiko, Akira, and Isamu. 

Tanjiro sighed as he looked at the group, "Personally I do have something planned for my break." Tanjiro said as the others started to listen in, "I'm going out of town for the entire week to visit my childhood town and my parent's grave." Tanjiro said as his tone suddenly turned a bit sad.

"That's thought Tanjiro, I feel bad for you. May we ask where you are going?" Genya asked sympathetically, "I'm going to Kyoto." Tanjiro replied.

"Dam, well I wish you good luck and safe travels man." Genya and the other said as they started to comfort Tanjiro.

Tanjiro gave them a soft smile as Kanao tugged at Tanjiro's coat to which Tanjiro responded by turning around to face the young girl. "Hm?" Tanjiro said, "I just want to say have a safe trip and I-I'm really sorry for your loss..." Kanao shyly said. 

Tanjiro's smile widened even more since he was genuinely thankful for Kanao saying that to him

"Thanks, Kanao, I hope you have a wonderful break too," Tanjiro said while giving Kanao a head pat.

Kanao exploded into a blushing mess as she covered her face and looked away from Tanjiro. 

"E-eh?! Kanao are you ok?!" Tanjiro exclaimed while trying to help the girl.

The entire group looked at the two as if they were hopeless. "These idiots..." Aoi thought, "I can't believe that they haven't noticed by now..." Genya thought as he stroked his forehead. "Tanjiro! How f*cking dense can you be?!" Zenitsu thought while looking at the two with a dark smile.

"Will all the students line up for the dunk tank, please?" Shinobu said into the microphone.

The group then turned to the stage where Shinobu was standing as a large dunk tank filled with red liquid was then unveiled with Giyu wearing full white swimwear sitting on the dunk seat.

They saw the line forming in front of the dunk tank as they also walked to the end of the line in order to participate in the dunking.

Meanwhile, at the dunk tank, Giyu did not show it with his expression, but you could tell that he was nervous due to the beads of sweat that ran down his face. 

He did not want to fall in the cold water so he prayed that all the students would miss.

But he knew that would never happen.

Tanjiro: Halo!

Tanjiro: Remember what we talked about last time with the standard-issued uniforms that we agents get along with our heat blades?

Tanjiro: Well... Not every agent abides by the dress code since some agents send in their own designs for what they want their uniforms to be like.

Tanjiro: We also do have casual uniforms, but only one pair is assigned to every agent. But we can customize as much as we want as compared to our regular uniforms since we aren't allowed to directly add our own modifications to it and instead have a tailor modify it for us.

Tanjiro: And also our heat blade is only the default weapon that the agents are assigned. We can switch our weapon out for another weapon like a staff or an axe. 

Tanjiro: Some of my friends don't use the heat blade and instead use the other weapons that we are offered.

Tanjiro: You'll see it soon, but for now stay tuned for the dunk tank and a new character introduction in the next chapter, "Let the Laughs Die".
