You groggily sat up rubbing your eyes. You could see it was early still, and you didn't remember falling asleep. You thought back to the previous day, your 'chat' with Law. Shaking your head, you got to organising the newspaper clippings next to you.

You knew Law hadn't really said anything wrong, and you didn't understand why your emotions felt so uncontrollable, like every word that came out of your mouth was someone else's. You sighed reading the time, it was only 4 in the morning, yet you felt fully rested.

"Maybe I should look for food" you thought aloud, before shaking your head again. Bad idea, you shouldn't be wandering around anyway, that would be against doctors orders. However, your stomach, betraying you, let out a rumble that you were sure could be heard throughout the sub.

Biting your lip you decided sneaking out couldn't hurt, if you were quiet enough you could pull it off. You let your bare feet land on the freezing floor, wincing as goosebumps lined your body. You felt mad at yourself for not packing your slippers, you hadn't thought through life on a submarine properly.

Resting your hand on the door handle, you came to a stop, remembering you had locked it the night before. Your face burnt up, in what could only be explained as embarrassment over your angsty teen move. Going to unlock it however you realised it already was. Confusion overtook you, you knew for sure you hadn't done this, unless maybe they had a way to unlock it from the outside.

You shook you head, they must have, it would be dangerous to allow patients to keep it locked. You threw the thought to the back of your mind as you walked the now memorised pathway to the kitchen. Making sure it was empty you peered your head around the doorway, gritting your teeth and hiding when you realised it wasn't.

Of all the people to be sat in the damn kitchen at 4am it had to be the captain of this vessel enjoying a midnight snack, great. You thought about just turning around. You didn't want to be in there alone with him right now. "How long do you plan to hide behind that wall y/n-ya" he called out, causing you to become ridged for being caught, before your shoulders deflated in embarrassment.

You gingerly stepped into view entering the kitchen. "I wasn't hiding" you huffed, earning you a roll of the eyes. You still felt upset by your interactions with him yesterday. Clearly he was feeling a type of way too because he didn't look at you once.

Silently and awkwardly you shuffled your feet, wondering if you should just leave now. The silence hanging in the air wasn't one of comfort. You could not imagine how this situation could get much worse.

"Really the two of you are in the kitchen again in the early hours" a voice came blaring into the kitchen. Usually you would have thanked the high forces that sent you this gift, but not today. Had it been Penguin, Shachi, Bepo, hell even a member you hadn't spoken to before, you'd be happy.

It was Ikkaku, someone you felt just as awkward around. "Oh you have leftovers by the way, in here" Ikkaku smiled pointing you to some food. You let out a little smile, feeling ready to prove your judgements of her wrong. You thanked her as you grabbed the food from her.

"I might as well keep you company, I'm a little peckish myself" she admitted, raiding the cupboards. You listened as Law sighed, clearly annoyed by his interruptions. "Sorry Captain, are we interrupting, it's just good to make sure she's fed right?" She folded her arms looking to him, the sweet innocent attitude felt juxtaposed to the annoyance in her words.

"No. I'm finished anyway" he excused leaving. As he got to the doorway he turned to look back at you finally meeting your eyes. "You can't eat that, you have surgery scheduled for 7am". You let out a sigh. "Or you can if you want to succumb to pulmonary aspiration" he remarked, clearly displeased by your sigh. You didn't turn from him until he was walking away.
