You're Gonna Go Far, Kid: The Offspring

"Alright, c'mon, people. C'mon." I get up and exit my office. "Let's get back to work. Joe, shut that off." I head over to the guys.

"Can you believe this nonsense? After all is said and done, who's back in charge? Aubrey James, the original crook himself." Harvey chuckles.

"Yep." I bite the inside of my cheek.

"Did Lee check you out?" Jim asks.

"Yeah."

"Did she-"

"Take my heart rate and my blood pressure, yes, Jim. She gave you the chart. Like she does every two weeks."

"Just being extra sure."

"Uh-huh."

"Where's Clark?" Jim looks around.

"In Smallville for a few days. He'll be back on Monday."

"How was the cabin?" Harvey looks between me and Jim.

"What?" Jim and I say.

"You guys and your uncle? You must have had a lot to catch up on."

"Oh. Yeah." Jim nods.

"Any word on Nygma?" I cross my arms.

"No, but, after gassing the cadets and dangling me over an empty stairwell, he just disappeared. No riddles, puzzles, or singing telegrams yet." Harvey tells me. "Who's, uh, Michael Ness?"

"The drunk driver who hit and killed my father when I was nine." Jim informs. "A thing my uncle said got me thinking."

"What have you got?" I ask.

"Not much. He was convicted of vehicular manslaughter, got six years, then got his ticket punched in a prison stabbing a few months in."

"Silver lining." I grip his shoulder.

"Yeah." Jim holds my wrist. "But I pulled his medical file from Blackgate and found something that wasn't in the original case file. He had chronic persistent hepatitis. I was going to ask your mom what it was when she got in."

"Chronic persistent hepatitis is a non-progressive form of liver inflammation." Harvey says and I furrow my eyebrows in disbelief.

"How do you know that?"

"You kidding? It's known as the Irish Curse."

"Yeah. With chronic inflammation, you cannot drink." I nod.

"Nothing, not a drop." Harvey adds. "Not even beer."

"This guy didn't get the memo. His blood alcohol was off the charts the night of the accident." Jim inquires.
