Ring of Fire: Social Distortion
"His name is Will Thomas. Parents died in a home invasion a few weeks after the bridges came down. Guys that broke in took him to some sort of factory where he was held alongside dozens of other stolen kids, all chained together." Dad explains as I watch the doctor examine Will.
"God." Harvey whispers.
Who are these guys?" Oliver questions.
"Call themselves The Soothsayers. You ever heard of them?" Dad wonders.
"No." I shake my head. "But who can keep track these days? Which district?"
"Granton. Near the water, he said. Had them digging some sort of tunnel. Will broke free from his restraints last night and walked nine miles through the Dark Zone to find us."
"What kind of tunnel?"
"Unclear."
"There's an abandoned waterworks by the old dock in Granton." Harvey tells us.
"Detective Gordon? Detective Brady?" Will turns to us.
"Yes, Will?" I walk over to him.
"My friends. You'll save them, won't you?"
"We'll look into it." Dad nods.
"The Soothsayers won't be happy I escaped. They'll punish the others for it. Please, Mister Gordon. Miss Brady. I promised them I'd bring help." Will chokes out.
"I know, sweetie. I know." I cup his face. "We're gonna help you, okay? And your friends. My friend Layton is gonna take you somewhere safe, okay? She's gonna help you. She has a son named Miles. I've known him since we were kids. And she has another son Adam, and a daughter Selina. They're my best friends. And Oliver." I glance at Oliver.
"Hi, buddy." Oliver walks over. "We're gonna do everything we can, okay?"
"Let Layton take care of you."
"Okay." Will nods.
"Hi, honey." Layton walks over. "Let's get you cleaned up." She picks him up. "I'll get him washed up in the locker room." She leaves and I rub my jaw before turning.
"Kid, I know it's a sad story and emotions are high, but need I remind you that every two-bit criminal out there is looking to kill your dad to claim Penguin's bounty?" Harvey tells me.
"I know. He's using my dad to get to me."
"Exactly. So, you need to-"
"So you're saying we do nothing?"
"No, I'm saying the second you step outside that door, someone's gonna take a shot at you and your dad, and if it's not you that's getting hit, it's gonna be the schmo standing next to you, which is most likely gonna be me and Oliver."
