Bad Dream: Ruelle
"Well...medically, you seem okay." Lee removes her stethoscope as I lay in bed. "You're definitely a real person."
"Okay, so I'm real, but am I really me?" I croak out.
"More you than the symbiote. Sit up." She helps me sit up. "You in any pain?"
"A little achy, but I'm fine." I reply and she unzips my hoodie to reveal my sports bra and the scar down my chest.
"Breathe in and out." She places the bell of the stethoscope on my chest and I slowly inhale and exhale before she places a sensor on my finger. "Little shallow, but that's because your body's been through a lot. Pulse is a little jumpy, but, that's perfectly considering."
"Yeah." I murmur with a nod. "How did you know?"
"What?" She takes off her stethoscope.
"How did you know that I wasn't me?"
"When you woke up at the clinic. I saw it." Lee points to the side of her face, referring to the symbiotie that was inside of me. "Follow the light." She shines a light and my eyes follow it in various ways. "Do you remember anything?"
"I remember. And I'm sorry."
"It wasn't you, Brianna. And you didn't hurt me. Or any of us."
"I hurt Margo, my dad and Oliver."
"Webbing them to the wall does not count as domestic violence." Lee jokes.
"True." I chuckle. "I'm really sorry I didn't tell you sooner about me. I just, uh, I had people on my tail, and if you knew who I was, then I'd be putting you in danger. And I couldn't let that happen."
"I know. It's okay." She nods.
"You've always known, haven't you?" I study her.
"Not at first. But then I may have accidentally seen you in action a couple times."
"Yeah?"
"Yeah. The greatest thing I have ever seen in my entire life."
"Thanks." I scoff. "And thank you for not telling anyone."
"Of course." Lee grabs my hand. "You're secret is safe with me, Brianna. Always." She nods. "You hungry? Thirsty?"
"I'll eat later. I gotta—my dad, Harvey and I are on this case."
"Yeah, the pig serial killer guy."
"Yeah. We gotta catch him."
"You need sleep. And food and water." Lee inquires and I grab the glass of water on the nightstand, then drinking it all.
