Teach Me How To Love: Shawn Mendes

"Hey." Clark sets down a bale of hay.

"Hi." I enter the barn and stop. "You know I'm not fan of sugar coating, so, I'm just gonna say it."

"Okay." He sets down another bale of hay.

"We need to stay away from each other."

"What?"

"I thought about it, and our friendship is just too important. So if we want things to get back to the way they were, then distance will us some good."

"Is that really what you want?"

"Yes. I just said it, didn't I?"

"You can say something and not mean it." Clark walks closer to me. He looks right into my eyes, down at my lips, and then back up to my eyes, making my heart jump.

"Kent, I'm serious. We need to keep our distance."

"Okay." He nods and takes a few steps back. He tilts his head and I look down, trying to fight off the grin that's creeping up on my face. He now picks my head up with his fist under my chin. "You and I both know distance means nothing to us. It won't stop us. And how can things ever go back to the way they were if I know how you taste?" He runs his thumb down my bottom lip. "How I wanna kiss you every time I see you?"

"That's the whole point of the distance." I glance down at the ground. "It's supposed to—stop."

"Stop what?"

"You know what. Stop looking at me like that." I punch his chest.

"Like what?"

"You care about me, yes?"

"You have no idea."

"Okay, then please. We need to keep our distance. I have a lot going on right now and I can't—I mean it, Kent, stop looking at me like that!" I go to punch his arm.

He grabs my wrist and pulls me against his body. "If you really didn't think there's anything between us, you wouldn't be standing here right now." He says over my lips.

"There isn't anything between us. You know how dangerous my job is. I'm walking on a thin line every single day. I may never see you again when I leave every morning. Same for everyone else."

"Oh, so, I'm the only one who needs to keep their distance?" His other hand lands on my waist.

"No, I—yes. I-"

"I mean, if you get the feeling that it's the last time you're gonna see somebody, shouldn't you spend every possible minute with them?" He laces our hands together and pulls them down. "Hold them. Kiss him. Tell them how much you mean to them." He closes his eyes and brushes his lips over mine.
