    Feel Your Laughter: Linda Nygren

"The apple is such a plain, yet fascinating fruit." Zod looks at the apple in his hand. "Brianna, um...what is it? Brianna Brady, yes her, your partner. She's not with you? I was hoping she was."

"You're not going anywhere near her. Not for the sake of my wrath, for the sake of hers." Clark closes the door.

"Yeah, I hear she is quite the canon." He grins. "I had to fish these out from the very top. Why is that?" He looks back at the apple. "We both know you only have one weakness, and it's not citrus."

"Apples aren't a citrus fruit. What are you doing here?" Clark closes the door.

"You know it's the apple that launched the Trojan War? One of the great epic battles of all time. And for many religions, it's the apple that falls from the tree of knowledge that represents the fall of man. Now, I found that story quite interesting because it's so aptly illustrates how humans hoard knowledge. Whereas our own Kryptonian religion, now, that teaches knowledge should be shared by all."

"I'm sure you didn't come here for a Sunday School lesson. What do you want?"

"When we bow down before you, Kal-El, we embraced you with open hearts. Now, some of us feel as if our favor has not been returned."

"Your people."

"Our people."

"Our people have assimilated well. They don't need my help as much as the humans."

"No, we need it more. We have no powers here, Kal-El. And they expect you to help us get them. We need leadership. A mentor."

"I can't help you. I don't even know how to give our people my powers."

"Surely it's a mystery we can solve together."

"Earth is not another Krypton, and trying to make it one is a dangerous plan."

"Our people—they don't wanna conquer." Zod stands up. "But, if we don't deliver their powers soon, then sooner or later, they will do whatever it takes to get what they want themselves." He pauses. "We, um, we have to be able to defend ourselves, Kal-El. These humans, the brutalities...it's extraordinary. And if they discover us, they will hunt us down like animals."

"I won't let that happen."

"You are reluctant to take action because you don't trust me. You think I killed Jor-El." He tears up. "I lost a son, and I would never deprive anyone of his father in his life. You were a police officer once upon a time. You must believe me."

"My girlfriend's a police officer too. A very good one. She runs the place, the whole city. So if you think about crossing her, or the people she cares about, including me, I'll leave the rest to your imagination." Clark nods before leaving to pick up Brianna from the store.
