the new camper

The sun felt great on Kiwáni's skin as she laid in the grass. However, instead of being able to fully enjoying her time in the rays, the girl was on infirmary duty. She happened to be the most knowledgeable out of her siblings, making her the best choice when it came to random scrapes and bruise campers would often get.

Only when the infirmary was unusually empty did Kiwáni wish she was in her own cabin. Cabin number seven had special-made chairs that attached to their roof, allowing its inhabitants, and other campers if they paid enough, to fully enjoy the sun beams that reflected off the cabin most of the day. The cabin itself practically glowed golden under the constant sunlight, something the girl greatly appreciated.

All Apollo children felt good under the rays of sun. It was almost energizing for them, it woke them up and gave them their life. Lee said it was why they woke up a dawn every morning, because the rays brings them out of their sleeping state. Kiwáni was sure she could not live without the sun, it felt almost sickening to be without it.

As she laid in the grass, she could hear campers, satyrs and nymphs alike walking around her, all talking about the same four things. Summers at Camp Half Blood were all the same, in her opinion. She hung out with the same people, she trained with the same people, and she went to sleep under the same stars. Ever since Luke's not-to-be-mentioned quest, there had not been any real action. Kiwáni guessed that was good, but deep down she wished she could see some adventure.

Kiwáni remembered that day very clearly, the day Luke came back from his quest. She had been the one tasked with healing the gnarly gash on the side of his face. And although she had tried her very best, it had been simply too long since the wound was inflicted. The girl knew once she saw it that the wound would scar. When she delivered the news, Luke closed his eyes in grief and rolled away from her, saying nothing. The look he gave haunted her to this very day.
