the smell of poop

Kiwáni felt as though she had been running for hours before they stopped to rest. As she caught her breath, the daughter of Apollo looked at the walls that surrounded her.

Instead of the usual stone, the girl could not seem to find the walls, the darkness surrounding her seemingly going on for miles. Instead, it felt as though she was in a rather open and spacious room. This thought was then concurred when she heard the sound of flowing water. Kiwáni looked down, and suddenly felt the cold water running beneath her feet, soaking her shoes and socks. And as she followed the trial of water flowing, her eyes rested on a large pit, the now presumed source of the rushing water.

Briares sighed, and kicked at the water beneath him. "This pit goes straight to Tartarus," he murmured. "I should jump in and save you trouble."

"Don't talk that way," Annabeth immediately spoke up, her voice hard. "You can come back to camp with us. You can help us prepare. You know more about fighting Titans than anybody."

"I have nothing to offer," Briares said. "I have lost everything."

"What about your brothers?" Tyson asked. "The other two must still stand tall as mountains! We can take you to them."

Briares's expression morphed from dejection to despair, and Kiwáni closed to her eyes to try and hide away. "They are no more. They faded."

Faded.

Kiwáni breathed deeply, as the hisses and whispers in her head suddenly silenced. The only sound she could hear was the trickling water as it fell into the pit, and rushed down.
