the new quest

Camp life under Tantalus was different. Kiwáni and Clarisse had reluctantly let the campers part of the border patrol go, as they did not want to feel the new activities director's wrath. Luckily, there were some who still wanted to continue, in their free time. The two girls quickly developed a schedule to include everyone willing, with Clarisse reluctantly including Percy under Kiwáni's pleading.

But as the date of the first chariot race closed in, campers were having less time to commit.

To fill the time, the daughter of Apollo threw herself back into finding a cure for Thalia's tree. She found herself flicking through the dusty and ancient books stored in the attic of the Big House, under the watchful eye of the Oracle herself. Now, the mummified woman was not moving, but Kiwáni felt as though its dark eyes were boring into her every second she was up there. And to make matters worse, the ominous words she had received from the Zoltar machine last summer kept circling through her head.

The more you delve, the more you see,
The pledge design, will set you free.
But freedom's price is often dear,
And the cost of losing, is hard to clear.

Due to the girl's unshakable feelings of paranoia, Kiwáni preferred to keep her visits to the attic short, and to bring the books down to gloss over them in the warm light of the infirmary.  Plus, it was a task she and Will could do together without him getting himself in too much trouble.

"Has anyone used sideritis scardica? It was used by Hippocrates, and is described as a tonic for pretty much anything. Maybe that?"
