Returning the shield was easy. Ares was sitting on his motorcycle outside the diner in which they had met, picking his teeth with what looked like a bird bone. And he took the shield easily enough, slinging it over his back as if it weighed nothing. He even threw Percy a bag that held twenty bucks and a bunch of golden drachmas. But when he pointed out the ride he had procured was an eighteen-wheeler that was definitely carrying illegally-caught zoo animals, Kiwáni was not impressed.

And she stepped inside, and was immediately hit with the strong smells of kitty litter and sadness, the daughter of Apollo collapsed near the feed sacks, stewing in her discomfort.

Grover quietly whispered to the other animals, who seemed to be just staring at him with big, sad eyes. Both Kiwáni and Annabeth wanted to free the animals, with the latter wanting to take the plan a step further and hijack the semi-truck and drive the large vehicle, but the older girl reminded her that none them had their licenses. Being caught transporting animals, all while being underaged, would not be a good combo. Percy agreed, and warily eyed the lion in the corner.

As night, or what they assumed was night, fell, Annabeth turned to the rest of the group, her demeanor almost embarrassed. "I'm sorry about freaking out back at the waterpark."

Kiwáni waved her off, giving the girl an affectionate slap to the shoulder. "Hey, I get it. I did the same with Medusa."

Annabeth huffed, and sunk deeper into her seat. "At least you shot at her. I just, froze. I didn't do anything. You should have just left me there."
