the battle at camp half bloodFinally being out of the Labyrinth felt like a blessing to Kiwáni. The minute Rachel led them to the Marriot basement door and the group stood on the busy street in downtown New York, the girl felt like she could finally breathe again. She took a deep breath looking up at the sky, letting the beams of light hit her face, warming her skin.
"Your head looks way better!" Rachel exclaims, breaking the girl out of her reverie.
Kiwáni nodded along with the words, still basking in the rays of the sun. "I feel better." She rubbed at her head, searching for any bumps, sighing in relief when she found none.
Percy's loud whistle caused the girl to jump, startled, and snap her eyes open. Once she adjusted to the harsh light of the sun, she was able to make out the flock of pegasi flying their way. Kiwáni sighed in relief. Finally, she would not have to walk to the place she needed to go.
Blackjack, she righty assumed, was the first to land on the group. The black pegasus immediately shouldered up to the girl, patting his head on the girl's shoulder, breathing slightly into her hair.
"Careful bro," Percy spoke out loud, directing the horse away from the girl.
Kiwáni shook her head and gave the pegasus a good pat. "He's a sweetie. No harm, no foul."
The girl quickly moved towards the Appaloosa-looking pegasus she had ridden last December, giving the creature a sweet brush of its mane. Silena had told her the pegasus's name was Cinnamon, and that she loved cubes of sugar. Kiwáni had been sneaking the pegasus some ever since.
