the journey back homeOnce the four teenagers had made it to shore, they were all out of breath. Poseidon had dumped them pretty far away from the shore, and Kiwáni had trouble holding onto Percy for that long. She could not imagine how Grover and Annabeth felt, having to swim the whole way.
Thankfully, they had been picked up by the Coast Guard, who had promptly dropped them off at shore with a bunch of merch and a stern warning of never to go in the water when there was an earthquake. A lesson Kiwáni was sure she would never forget.
"I don't believe it," Annabeth stated. "We went all that way—"
"It was a trick," Percy interjected. "A strategy worthy of Athena."
"Hey," she warned. But then her eyes softened. "Percy... I'm so sorry about your mother. I'm so sorry..."
Kiwáni nodded her head, and placed her hand on the boy's shoulder. "We'll find the helm."
Percy looked at the older girl. Her skin already looked better out of the Underworld, her simple cuts healing under the light of the sun. Even her shoulder looked better, still in the wrong place, but better.
"The prophecy was right. 'You shall go west and face the god who has turned'. But it wasn't Hades. Hades didn't want war among the Big Three. Someone else pulled off the theft. Someone stole Zeus's master bolt, and Hades's helm, and framed me because I'm Poseidon's kid. Poseidon will get blamed by both sides. By sundown today, there will be a three-way war. And I'll have caused it."
