ares and his quest

By the time the four of them had reached Denver, the group was starving and starting to smell. The last time Kiwáni had taken a shower had been at camp, and she did not like that she was walking around visibly covered in sweat and dirt. Plus, she had run out of the extra funds Lee had put in her bag, so the group was officially broke. But as they found themselves in front of a chrome covered diner, she could not bring herself to care. Food was first on her list of priorities. She quickly pushed through the diner doors.

"We want to, um, order dinner."

The waitress did not look amused at Percy's words. She gave the four them a slow look up and down from their seats in a booth, her eyes narrowed. "You kids have money to pay for it?"

Just as Grover let out a pained whimper, a rumble shook the whole building. All conversation at the diner stopped, and heads turned towards the door where a large muscular man walked in. He wore big red shades and seemed to have a handsome face, but it was covered by what seemed to be a resting look of agitation. The man's hands pushed open the diner door, and his hands seemed to be covered in multiple scars from what Kiwáni could guess was many, many fights.

"You kids have money to pay for it?" the waitress asked again. It felt as though she had not realized she had repeated herself.

The man slid himself into the group's booth, squishing both Grover and Kiwáni into the upholstered wood. "It's on me." He then looked at the older woman with the most withering glare the daughter of Apollo had ever seen. "Are you still here?"
