the air and space museumWhen first light appeared, Kiwáni was not at all ready to leave camp. She had told her brothers about what happened to her in the Grand Canyon, what she had unleashed and what the god had said. She had been worried that they would lash out at her, berate her for her foolishness, and say that she was not welcome in the cabin.
But that was not how it happened. They had all been quite careful with her, reassuring the girl she was alright, that everything would work out. Kiwáni had cried hard that night, finally releasing all the worries and fears she had, telling them about the veiled threat Artemis had given her. The one she did not fully understand.
So when she stepped out of her cabin, she headed straight to the lake. She had always thought the docks were a good place to collect your thoughts, and watch the sun rise against the water. The girl was sure the Hunters would not leave without her, so she took her time, gingerly skipping stones against the water.
"Sunshine," a voice exclaimed from behind her.
Kiwáni turned, and met the dark brown eyes of Ethan Nakamura, who shot her a small smile in greeting.
"Hey," she breathed out, returning the boy's greeting. "Sorry I haven't stopped in and said hello, I've been... busy."
Ethan shrugged, and took a step closer. "All good. You look stressed." He reached out, and gently brushed his pointer finger across the newly acquired burn on her arm. Kiwáni had a feeling that the scar was not going to go away.
