the lady medusaAs the group walked along the New Jersey shore bank, the smell of the Hudson river permeated the air. The far away lights of New York city cast an eerie yellow glow on the branches of the trees as they passed. Kiwáni shivered, and shuffled closer to Annabeth, who was currently leading the four of them through the woods.
"You don't need to protect us, Percy. We... I would've been fine," Annabeth spit out.
"Sliced like sandwich bread," Grover added, "but fine."
"Shut up, goat boy."
The son of Poseidon responded back with his own snarky comment, his hands flailing everywhere as he tried to get his point across.
Kiwáni let the two demigods argue with one another, not wanting to be in between the spat between Percy and Annabeth. Slowing her steps, she fell in line with Grover, who also seemed to be giving the pair some space. "Sorry about the cans."
Grover sighed heavily. "Tin cans... a perfectly bag of good tin cans."
The daughter of Apollo motioned to her bag, which looked a little beat up but still relatively intact. "Hey, I've still got good plastic and wax wrappers in there. I've got you buddy." She started rummaging through her bag, as if to pull something out. After a couple of seconds of digging, she felt an unknown lump in the bag, causing the girl to frown in confusion.
Once Kiwáni pulled out the unknown object, the girl let out a small laugh. In her hands rested a beat up View Master toy, already loaded with a wheel of pictures to flip through. A note was taped to the bottom, and when she turned it around, her heart melted.
