WHEN MELISA GOT to work, she immediately headed to the kitchen for coffee. She had a cup at Lyla's place, but it wasn't enough.

"Hey." Brett walked up to her.

"Morning." Melisa drank the rest of her coffee.

Brett chuckled, nudging Melisa. "Someone was up last night."

Melisa put the cup down. "Ooh, yes. Before early shift, too. Great decision-making on my part."

"At least you'll be relaxed," Brett muttered to Melisa, whose eyes widened. She nudged Brett, who laughed.

The alarm then went off: car accident. Everyone rushed out.

Only one car was involved. As soon as they exited the truck, Casey gave out orders. They got rid of the smoke. Gabby helped Melisa open the door on the driver's side.

Once the door was open, Melisa pushed it wide, and she froze when she saw the little girl sitting behind the wheel. "Lieutenant?"

Casey walked over and was just as shocked when he saw the girl. "Are you okay?" He cut the seatbelt off. "Brett, let's get a C-collar over here!"

Brett went over to help. The other firefighters were working to get the other two passengers out of the car. They soon discovered those were her parents, and they were drunk.

After checking in on the girl, they got her on a stretcher— while her parents got arrested.

"Kaylee!" The mother called out to the little girl. "Mommy loves you."

Hermann started walking in their direction, furious. "Yeah, real nice work, folks! You put your daughter in the hospital!"

Melisa pulled him back. "Let's go."

He went along with her. "Disgusting," he muttered.

When they returned to the firehouse, they saw Otis standing by the Squad table. "What the hell are you doing here?" Otis turned when he heard Hermann's voice.

"Yeah, I'm on steroids, I'm not bedridden." Otis shook Hermann's hand.

"See, what I heard when they said medical leave was four weeks paid vacation," Mouch said. Melisa and Stella both hugged Otis. It was weird not having him there and on calls.

Stella agreed with Mouch. "Yeah, shouldn't you be on a singles tour of Middle Earth or something?"

Otis laughed sarcastically. "Yeah, I'm here to collect my check."
