Now that Beth was back at camp and Nate was catching up on sleep, Hayden had basically filled in his place in the group. Nate had not come out of his cabin in weeks and they didn't expect him to come out for literally months. He was like a bear who was hibernating, and after doing the math, they figured out that he would not be out of his cabin for about eight months. Beth made sure to leave him food that Mikayla enchanted so that it would not rot, just so he didn't starve the moment he woke up.
She walked out of Nate's cabin about three months later and ran into Eden, who asked "He is okay, right?"
"Yes, Eden. he just needs to recuperate," Beth replied, then she winced as a pain in her shoulder flared up again.
"Are you okay?" Eden asked, seeing Beth's pain.
"Yeah... just some residual pain from... the past few years."
"Ah, I see," Eden replied softly, but then she stopped, and asked "If I may ask... what did they use? I can feel bits of roots and wood inside almost every part of your body."
"Well, they did use a lot of weapons, it would make sense that there are pieces left over."
"Hm... would you like me to get them out of you?" Eden offered.
"Wait, you can do that?" Beth asked.
"Mhm, I figured it out while you were gone. We have all improved a lot. Mikayla's magical abilities have skyrocketed, Nate managed to improve everything he could already do, and there is so much more, but I think you would like to see it instead of just hearing about it from me." Beth was always very impressed by the knowledge and wisdom her friends could impart upon her.
"I suppose that is true, but are you really able to get all of those bits out of me?"
"Anything that is made from the natural world? Yes, yes I can... unless they used anything from other pantheon worlds, such as the Nine Realms."
"The Nine Realms?"
"You know, the place Odin created? Asgard, Midgard, Nifilheim, all of those?"
"Oh... right. I have been gone and focused on nothing but pain so long that it slipped my mind."
"Well, you are back now, and I am ready to help you get back to full strength."
"So, what do I have to do?"
"Drink with Marc."
Beth paused for a moment before asking "What?"
"This is a procedure which entails forcefully taking pieces of foreign material out of your body. You will need to be numbed, and the best way to get that done... is drinking. May not be super healthy, so I may end up taking the alcohol out as well. Normally I would ask Nate to help keep your mind occupied so you are not as focused on the pain your body will be in... but..."
"Yeah, I know," Beth groaned "Why can Mikayla not help?"
"Do you really trust her?" Eden asked, looking up at Beth with a look.
"Yeah, that is fair."
"Alright, go find him. I think he would love to be able to beat you in a drinking contest."
"I have been getting used to eating normal food again and I need a drink, so I will absolutely crucify him in this."
"Okay then, have fun," Eden sighed as she walked off "Do not give yourself alcohol poisoning. The Norse are immune to it."
She walked through the camp, seeing new people she had never seen before. It made sense as she had been gone for two years, but she still hadn't expected so many new faces. Some ignored her as they did not understand the commotion about her return while others waved at her. She would always wave back as she walked to the Mess Hall, which was much bigger than she was used to. She had always just gone into the line at the outdoor breakfast and dinner stand, rarely ever actually coming into the Mess Hall. Now that she was here, she understood why so many people ate here instead of outside.
She looked for the bar and found it quickly, mainly because of Marc yelling "Go for ten! Go for ten!!!"
She came over to the son of Thrud and said "Bet you can not beat me in a drinking contest."
"Oh really, and why do you think you're gonna be able to keep up with me?"
"I need a drink and you clearly do, too. What will the damage be? I thought you were immune to alcohol poisoning."
"I'm immune to a lot of things, so yeah. Let's go."
The two began their contest with some simple rum and coke shots, which didn't do much. After a few shots, they leveled up to mojitos, which gave them each a bit of a buzz, but nothing major. After a while, they just decided to go all in and ordered five bottles of vodka each. After chugging three, the effects of the alcohol began to kick in for Beth.
"Hey... want to hear a funny little thing I learned about-" Beth hiccupped "About Kenny?"
"Sure... I'd love to, hit me with it." Beth nodded and swung the glass into his head "Ah! What the Hel was that for!?"
"You said to hit you with it," Beth replied in an incredibly slurred speech.
"I meant tell me, not break a glass over my head."
"Oh, right... so remember how he had a crush on Eden...?"
"Yeah, why?"
"He named his..." She hiccuped again "Na-named his pillow after her and kisses it a lot..."
"Wow, that's interesting." They heard someone walk in and Marc turned around and said "Speak of the devil." He suddenly fell off the stool and crashed down unconscious on the floor.
"I am going to assume that you two have finished up and we can continue the procedure?" Eden asked.
"That... was good drink..." Beth mumbled.
"Yup, definitely ready for the procedure," Eden sighed as she used roots from beneath the ground to drag Beth back to her cabin "So, truth be told, I have never done this before, but I am sure I can figure it out without causing you more damage than necessary."
She laid Beth down on the table in her room and used some roots to hold her in place. Eden took a deep breath in, then placed her palms on her torso. Eden closed her eyes and felt around for the pieces that shouldn't be in her body. When she found most, she began to carefully pull them out. It took a while as she had to make sure they were small enough to exit out her pores so they didn't cause any bleeding or any other damage. Beth did not wake up through any of it, but it was clear that her body was being put under immense strain. Eden tried her best to make sure that there would be no bleeding, but by the end, there were splotches of blood all over Beth's clothes. Eden checked her pulse, heart rate, and breathing, and they were all completely normal.
"Oh, thank you," Eden sighed as she sat down on the floor "Whoof... okay. Now the easy part." She got up and looked around in her chest for a spool and needle "Let us get you stitched up." She turned around and yelped as she saw Beth sitting up, so she instinctively kicked her in the head, which knocked Beth out "I... should probably check for a concussion." She did, and when she found no such damage, she let out a breath "Okay... now for the stitches." She did them within ten minutes or so and then patted Beth on the head while she was still unconscious. "Hah... hm... this could look really weird... oh, I have an idea." She opened the trap door into the basement of her cabin and used more roots to pull Beth down below "Okay... now where is your cabin?" She put her hand on a patch of dirt that she used to see anything she needed to "Ah, there it is. Okay." She used the roots in the ground to make a temporary tunnel into Beth's basement, then when they got there, she put the daughter of Athena into her bed, and calmly walked out.
