The group all got up at different times, but all before the sun had risen, and all gathered at the mess hall. The group had decided that they would have one last meal with each other. Each of them had left their bags in the cabins and all got food. Nate got himself a large order of fish and chips and Marc got a quintuple pattied cheese burger with two sides of extra large fries. Mikayla got herself a huge bowl of ramen and Eden got herself a chicken sandwich. Beth just got herself a cheeseburger and Hayden got a steak. Kenneth just got himself a hotdog and a side of french fries.
Nate was wearing his usual loose black sweatpants and a sweater that had been fitted with wrist bracers for battle. Beth had on a leather jacket and black shirt, both revealing much of the midriff and matching black leather pants with her usual combat boots. Kenneth was wearing a button up flannel shirt and light gray jeans, the pants had shin guards added for protection. Marc was wearing a simple white tshirt and black pants with sandals. Mikayla was wearing a white hoodie, rolled up jean shorts, and gray running shoes. Eden had a black skirt and translucent black leggings on and over that there was a long skirt with a tight black tank top with armor around the stomach region. Hayden had put on some jeans, combat boots, and had a brown plaid shirt wrapped around his waist while also having a white shirt and black leather jacket on.
"So... you guys ready to do this?" Eden asked to break the tension.
"No," Nate replied "But we don't have much of a choice, so we've gotta do this."
"Nate, did you just read my mind again or are we actually thinking the same thing?" Hayden asked.
"Latter, man," Nate replied "Everyone ready to go?" They nodded and they all finished their meal, then got up, and set out.
Orpheus stopped them briefly at the gate, but it was not in any way to stop them from leaving. He already knew they were set on their path, so he just gave them a ticket back home. He put a spherical gem in Hayden's hand and told him that it would take one of them back to camp if they ever needed it. He nodded and put it in his bag, then Nate called on Gulltoppr, and they set off.
As they rode through the forest, Nate decided to play with Beth a little. He took a turn to the area that had been charred and acted like a tour guide to the group. Eden, Marc, and Mikayla all played along and pretended to be tourists. They even pretended to take pictures with cameras they didn't have, whereas Kenneth was just disgusted by all the bodies, Beth decided not to look, and Hayden threw up because of the smell of decay. Nate was a little surprised about this since he was the son of the God of The Underworld, but he figured that it was just a part of his human side.
"So, now that we've seen the most famous tourist attraction in the forest, is everyone ready to head out?"
"Yes!" Beth and Hayden exclaimed in unison.
Nate laughed and pushed his heel into Gulltoppr's side, not even close to enough to hurt but enough for him to feel it. He let out a low growl and they continued on their way through the forest. After a while, the group came out at a road which thankfully had no cars driving through at the moment.
"Oh, awesome! A road," Eden said as they all hopped off Gulltoppr's back "Maybe we can hitch a ride."
"Yeah... I think that would not be the smartest idea," Kenneth replied "We are a bunch of people whom no one knows lives in these woods and we are carrying bags, weapons, and riding a lion that has horns, and from the trips to the human zoos we've been to, Gull here is at least twice a normal lion's size."
"Gull?" Mikayla asked.
"I did not feel like saying Gulltoppr every time," Kenneth replied "So, I just call him Gull."
"I like it," Nate said "Although, I think Top would be a better shortening."
"What about Toppr?" Beth suggested.
"Eh, sounds too much like a toddler to me," Nate replied "And I hate those."
"How about we each call him whatever we feel like," Hayden asked.
"You're not allowed to call him animal or lion," Nate told him, which caused Beth to snort knowing Hayden was gonna call Gulltoppr either of those names and Hayden rolled his eyes at Nate.
Beth playfully punched his shoulder, "Be nice. Or I'll throw you off Gull myself."
Hayden shut his mouth then and there and Nate and Kenneth couldn't help but laugh at the son of Hades. A car came up over the ridge and they all hid in the thick trees to keep from being spotted. Gulltoppr could only try to disguise himself as a small dirt mound, but the car drove by so fast that they didn't seem to notice. The group came out of hiding for a split moment and then jumped back behind the trees as the cars would not stop coming. After about fifteen cars, they finally stopped coming and the group tried to figure out their next move.
"Alright, so those cars all had... a lot of random shit from what I could tell, but they all had the same types of things," Nate said "They had all sorts of clothes, sunglasses, a lot of hangover shit... earplug- oh... we're near Las Vegas."
"That place with all the drinking and gambling?" Beth asked.
"I... what!? How the hell how do either of you have any clue what Las Vegas is?" Hayden exclaimed.
"You realize I've been outside of the camp more often than you think, right? I started to hear a lot about Vegas, LA, pretty much everywhere. Apparently there's this awesome water park resort hotel place in Germany that's built within the hanger of old World War II blimps."
"Huh, that's interesting," Mikayla said.
"Right? Anyway, let's follow this road to Las Vegas and then... I dunno, figure it out from there."
They got onto Gulltoppr and rode him slowly through the trees to make sure they weren't spotted. Sure, a lion could possibly give people pause, but seeing a bunch of people riding one would probably get police called. They all knew about the mortal mind's defense mechanism against seeing divine creatures and events, but still, Gulltoppr would be seen as a lion, which... until Las Vegas, would probably be seen as a little more than unusual or scary. The group rode until they came to a fork in the road. There were two exits and one ran to Las Vegas.
"Okay, here's what we're gonna do," Hayden told them as he hopped off Gulltoppr's back "We're gonna find a way to mark the sign without anyone else noticing."
"I can tag it with some Bifrost," Nate replied "Top can smell its scent long after it's gone out. We'll be able to find this place pretty quickly tomorrow."
"Alright." Nate walked past him and threw a Bifrost burst into the back of the sign "Now, we should find somewhere as close as possible to make camp for the night."
